A couple of bugs … :

  • The system-provided tray icons (for example, the network and volume icons), as well as the date/time in the tray area, are not clickable. Visible application tray icons work fine, however.
  • When the option "Use the Start11 Start Menu" is disabled, and/or the option "Clicking the start button opens" is set to "Windows menu," the Windows menu does not open. (Clicking the start button does nothing.) However, the option "Pressing the Windows key opens" works correctly.

… and a few feature requests:

  • When the taskbar buttons are showing text, it would be nice if the full width of the button was underlined, similar to how it was done in Windows 10, rather than just a small mark below the icon. It doesn't need to be exactly like Windows 10 (it could stylistically coordinate with Windows 11 somehow), but the small marks below the icons are not very visible in this mode. It is difficult to tell which window has focus. Also (at least with my currently chosen color scheme), there is nothing that reveals how wide the buttons are. Something like the Windows 10 underline would address both of those.
  • I'm using the Small taskbar size. In this mode, I'd like the ability to just have the clock, instead of a stacked clock and date, as in past Windows versions.
  • When pressing the Windows key, I would like the start menu to always open on the primary monitor, rather than the monitor where the cursor is currently located.

Thanks!

[Windows 21H2 / 22000.593. Scale=150%. Three 4K screens, primary in center.]

It looks like primary to the right of the secondary monitor is triggering a problem.

We will be working on fixing this for the next update.

Okay, so  I changed to left monitor as primary and yes now those buttons are all clickable.  Changed back to right monitor as primary and again buttons are not clickable.  Interestingly when left monitor is primary, the Start11 start button highlights when I hover the mouse over it.  But when right monitor is primary the Start11 start button does not highlight when I hover the mouse over it.  Start button is clickable, just doesn't highlight.

Right-clicking on a taskbar icon close the edge of the screen

And you are definitely using 1.19?

Explorer randomely crashes and restarted windows 11 Start11 1.19

I am afraid we would need more information such as version of Windows 11, what you are doing at the time etc.

If you are using a dev/beta release of Windows 11 we would suggest filing a bug with Microsoft.

can you please add option to maximise size of taskbar icons to the edge of taskbar?

You have a margin around the taskbar application items buttons which is very annoying to use

because when move the mouse naturally to do a quick click I just move it to top/bottom edge of taskbar button.

but now because of margin cannot do this must consciously focus on moving mouse to centre.

windows 10 taskbar application buttons were edge to edge no margin.

can you add this as an option alternatively? to disable the margin created and make buttons full height+width.

I was coming here to post about the same exact issue. Hopefully it can get resolved quickly. Other than that everything so far has been great. Cheers

I've had to revert to v 1.18 from 1.19.  When the taskbar is positioned at the top with a dual monitor setup, peek/thumbnails do not appear when hovering over active applications in the task bar.  I have not verified this behavior with a single monitor setup.  I have verified it is consistent through uninstall / reinstall of version 1.19.

What is your layout for the monitors?  Primary to the right of secondary?  Stacked above each other?

Then thats the issue we were already aware of and it should be addressed for the next build.

Ack, then I apologize for the spam.  I didn't see it in the thread, but it's likely I simply missed it.

Thank you Neil for the response,

I am on beta channel (not crazy enough for dev lol) and we were happily on a 22000.XXX build until MS jumped us to a higher build.

and sh@t went sideways..lol

We are ALL on the same build now, unfortunately! I'd had minimal problems under the true Beta channel but this time around reminded me why I've always steered clear of OS Dev builds!! lol

Please look into this because I am clearly not the only user having this issue.

Could you, or anyone one else that is having the quick settings clipping issue, be able to perform a clean boot and see if the issue is still happening? (preferably on a desktop with a single monitor)

I can confirm 100% that recreating the Windows profile resolves the quick settings clipping issue. It must be caused by some leftovers from either an earlier Start 11 version or another program such as StartAllBack which I used previously. I tested this on two machines and on both the issue is now resolved.

Maybe theres no more Explorer-Crash under Win10 (not tested), but the Explorer crashes definitively under Win 11. Shortly after User-Login and loading the Desktop (approx. 5-10 sec later), the Explorer crashes, but only if you do nothing. Quickly starting a program, will prevent the crash.

I also have an issue with thumbnail content missing sometimes when you hover an taskbar item (only the title shows above an empty space where the thumbnail should be). I can't reproduce this issue consistently, most of the times the thumbnails are showing fine.

New bug I haven't seen in the earlier beta's. The task bar is behaving fantastically but the start menu is...not.

Setup:

Fresh install of "Start11_1.19-j155-Setup.exe"

(uninstalled previous versions, ran the purge batch file, and restarted my machine before installing).

Using a "5 active installs" license. Not sure if that matters, but it's information.

Observed behavior:

When the "Windows 7 style" or "Modern style" start menu are selected, it appears that the whole taskbar/start button disappear for about 2 seconds, and then return, only to repeat continuously. Task Manager suggests "COM Surrogate" processes keep dying and respawning, but I don't know if that's related or just a byproduct.

When the "Windows 10 style" is selected, all seems stable UNTIL the start menu opens, either by pressing the keyboard or by clicking with the mouse, at which point the entire thing flashes and appears to crash/reload again. Again, Task Manager suggests "COM Surrogate", again not sure if it's related.

When "Windows 11 style" is selected, all seems to work as expected.

Versions:

Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.556)

Start11 version 1.19

Hardware:

HP Victus laptop (16t-d000)

AMD Ryzen 6 5800H

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU

1920x1080 display

We would really like a dump file from that if you are willing to use WinDBG to capture it.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/windbg-preview/9pgjgd53tn86?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Once installed, you would make it the default postmortem debugger:

When a crash happens, it will pop WinDBG and PC could become rather slow will it works through it.

Example of what you would type there:

.dump /mf c:\users\sdrohan\desktop\Start11_RiverComb_04062022.dmp

The dump command (with the period), the /mf switch, where you want it put, and a name that indicates what app
that its yours, and the date.

When it is done, you can click the red 'Stop Debugging' button:

It will likely be BIG, perhaps hundreds of MBs. If you could zip it and share a link to an upload to a cloud drive service, that would be much appreciated. If you don't want to put the link here, you can PM me:

Thanks.
