Moving to Steam

If bought the Beta on the Epic Games Store, will it be possible to "move" over to steam once the final version is relseased? The base game obviously works the same, but the Steam Workshop is something I use a lot with GalCivIII, since its perfect for quickly getting new ships and factions, so I would really like to have it available on GalCiv4

I think almost everybody will agree with this.   The pattern is that these "exclusivity" agreements last one year, and then things are wide open.  As  far as Stardock is concerned, they are a small developer, and making their stuff available in the least expensive way possible probably explains the use of EPIC to start out.  Oh well.  The best thing that could happen is that the game is wildly popular (my choice) and Steam regrets their terms weren't as attractive as EPIC's.  And thus other games will be more likely to go on Steam.  In the last year I have seen two excellent games wind up on EPIC...Old World and GC4.  I  am grateful that it isn't more, I suppose.

I should add that I haven't personally had any problems with EPIC, but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of people who do have problems.  The main thing is having all my games on one platform is convenient.   I am embarassed to say how many games I have on Steam, so I won't. Let's just say it is into three figures.  Yipes.

They have already said that GalCiv4 won't use Steam workshop.  It will have an internal modding platform that was developed for other Stardock software.

I did. My internet was down, and for some reason I couldn't log in offline. The password box wouldn't come up. The message said I didn't have the right approval. This happened this morning. It happened last week, and I couldn't remember my password. So I went to Epic's website as soon as my internet was back up, and changed my password. But this morning the option to put it in never came up, only my email/ username.

I absolutely believe people have trouble with epic.  I was happy to see  that supernova was going to be stand alone on steam.   So I grabbed it - well thats the way it is with galciv, I just buy.   Course while it was downloading I noticed that people who had gc4 on epic could get supernova for $16.  Oops, that is a lot less than $42!  So I refunded my steam purchase.   And it went smoothly, which is another argument in favor of steam!   First time I ever refunded on steam.  Oh well is it worth $26 to get the game on steam instead of epic?  The jury is out.  I have a few things on epic because that's the only way I could get them (notably Old World).  If I haven't had a problem with EPIC maybe that is just saying it's about to happen, LOL.  All I can say is good luck.

We're going to have a transfer to Steam setup sometime tomorrow.  Epic GC4 can get a steam key for $15.99.  We'll be posting here.

You do realize that the $16 Epic price is only for someone who already bought the base game for $40.  A total of $56.  If you don't have the base game and just want Supernova EPIC's price is $40 - only $2 less than Steam.

well I am that someone who got gc4 on epic last year or thereabouts.   So it is, at this point, a question of $16 vs $42 For ME.  As to frogboy's post I guess I am thinking perhaps I will refund on Epica and see how that goes. them try to get the steam key.

(added)  Well last night I somehow got 10 hrs posted on Supernova.   The refund policy is only for 2 hrs or less.   So  it seems for me the choice is epic and $16 or steam and $42, at which point I will have the original gc4 on epic and supernova on steam.   But I can take my chances for $16 and see how it works out.  Yeah I should have done more probing before jumping in.  Oh well, ever since beta testing GC3, I have been buying updates etc as soon as I see them.  In the long run no big deal... until I run into an epic fail (LoL).
