winamp3 skins

Winamp3 is a discontinued product. Nullsoft will now be focusing on releasing Winamp5, which combines Winamp2 usability and Winamp3 skinning. WA2 + WA3 = WA5. Another reason why not many Winamp3 skins are released, is because of the very complex code that goes into a good one. Also, WinCustomize is not really known for hosting Winamp skins, your best bet is Winamp.com.

Interesting note though is that Winamp5 uses the same skinning engine as 3 it appears. Or at the very least it can implement those skins since I am using an alpha of WA5. So once it goes beta you'll probably start to see more skins again.

I have to agree with hus about the code, its really hard because its MANY, wmp has only 2 code files, winamp v3 has about 15.

Styl....'insert 3 images and done' skins for WinAMP 2x are rejected here.....Skinmaker skins or 'photoskins' are not accepted.

Last time I checked, there are 19 bitmaps, 1 htm file and 3 config files to create one WA2x. skin [properly].....and WinAMP 2x is a very real skinned proggy which is only limited by control layout/placement [making it a greater challenge to be original].

There's an example of a fully skinned WA2x....

wow, what cheek. if one day you develop half of the skills of let´s say Kriptoner or 883Design, you might want to think about this again.

Its not that I don't call it art, it just isn't skinning (if done with a skin creator.)

Like I said, IMO, for me skinning is a mix between creating art and coding it to the application.

The things kriptoner has on his site looks nice, just not my style.

first of all: stop talking about art, it´s design. if something sucks as design it may qualify as art.
your knowledge about skinning seems to be pretty small if you think any of these skins was done with a skin creator (i doubt you even know what such a skin creator is as you put them on the same level with SkinStudio in post no. 6).
and what do you code into an msstyle or WB skin anyways ... setting sizing margins? that´s coding? hardly.

you still fail to see why i talked to you directly. somebody with rather average skills (that new WMP skin looks much better than your older stuff though) calls Winamp skinning (which brought the best skinners) "not really skinning" ... priceless.

Styl.....a sadly large proportion of the WA2x skins on Winamp.com are feeble photoskins of Britney's boobs or some dopey NFL team colours.....THEY are what is summarily rejected here.

Also, not only is WinAMP a significant 'skinnable' proggy [I refer to the traditional pre-3 version]...it was also the first 'mainstream' proggy that introduced more people to the concept of skinning than any other...[before and quite possibly since].

WA3 is just Kjofol re-packaged....

Styl....Maxim's region generator has nothing to do with the 'skinning' of Winamp....it's for calculating the transparency areas.....Maxim felt sorry for me doing mine by hand [and taking MONTHS just for them...when you get to 8000 co-ordinates by hand it gets bloody complicated].

Using Maxim's proggy still requires you to create the masks....another facet of real skinning.....
