Trades "Fixed" ??? .77a

So been playing the .77a version on test. Just got a trade offer from the Altarians.

The offered me Open Borders, and some low-mid level tech (I think it was Orbital Repair or something like that).

In return they wanted me to give them three other techs with a combined research time that was more than double (almost triple) the research time of the tech they were offering (and one of the techs was a military weapons tech); they also wanted about half of my Antimatter, about half of my Durantium, about half of my Xanthium, and roughly 25 percent of my total credits.

Now I know the Altarians are kinda self-righteous a##holes, but that seems like a pretty absurdly imbalanced trade offer, even from them.

Happy bug squashing!

This is my favorite line I've read today and it made me laugh.

We are seeing a mix of good trade offers and horrible trade offers right now. There is a lot of variance. We are playing with them to try to make them be more consistent.

That's because Orbital Repair leads right to Medium hulls.   I'd take that deal.

I've found that if I turn down the deal offered I can almost always negotiate a more favorable deal.  However I only deal with Civs below me because the AI always wants more Techs than they give, but they'll give me tons of credits to finance my rushes }:)

Meh, I'd still say they greatly overcharged for what they were offering. The time invested to research the tech is the primary "value" to me. So unless I was absolutely desperate for a specific tech, no way I would consider giving up almost triple the amount of research time in techs, plus a huge chunk of several other of my other resources (that take a long time to mine).

Time is after all, the most valuable resource

In the live branch the Mimot traded me Medium hulls for what I considered an absolute sweetheart deal. I’m going to used them to rain death all over the hive and the navigators making the Festron be true to form

Ya side note, I have since received some trade offers from Torians and Onyx Hive (in a new game) that seemed pretty fair trades. Maybe it's just those damn Altarians, that think way too highly of themselves, that offer horribly lopsided trade deals...

In my most recent playthrough, I'd say it is a mix. Some deals were favorable and some were definitely not. I just don't see the point in the AI offering a deal that is clearly bad. I can initiate a trade whenever I want (minus the cooldown) so if I want to make a bad trade, I can do it.

The new "Would you be interested in a trade deal with England" is "Would you like X to go to war with Y?" I get asked this every couple of turns and I find it intrusive. Yes, I know the Onyx Hive has had a blood feud with the whoevers forever. I think after the first time, a notification (Z will pay you X to go to war with Y) would be sufficient. The first time is fine because it does immerse you in the fact that this side war is happening.

The problem (which exists in every game where trading is a thing) is that you can completely game the AI by trading nearly all of your tech. Even if you trade at a loss, you come out way ahead. This is clearly something that could be worked on in balancing. In my current game, the Festron Hunt have amassed something like 40,000 credits and I have probably 30 more techs than they do. I'm sure someone out there has tech they would be interested in. (Or do they get a boost from their treasury like the Corporate dudes do? Huh, maybe I'm playing the Corporate wrong. 1% happiness for every 1000 credits might not seem like a lot until you have 50,000. Maybe I should have been taxing the @#$% out of my citizens the whole game. But I digress.)
