How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

The problem with the Nanite Transmitter not spawning an Overlord ship also still exists in this version.

Rushed on 1st turn and tried to spawn, but still no Overlord ship appears after spawning graphics disappear.

No. We're talking about the one per colony (not core world) "Colony Upgrade" you used to be able to do via the main galaxy view. Select the colony and then try to click on this button.  It used to bring up a menu of upgrades that could be built on a colony.

Galactic Challenges appear in the galaxy screen.

After that is chosen, the name is Galactic Achievements.

The Awakened Urges choice isn't available.  I'm required to be at peace for at least 50 weeks.  I have been at peace for all 155 weeks of the game.

When adding a governor to a colony by clicking on the add governor button at the planet information box, I get a list of Available Governors and Recruitable Governors.  The first three of the Recruitable Governors are actually some I have already recruited.  They don't have a cost for that reason.

There is a ship size problem when zooming in on the galaxy screen.  When not zoomed in too much, my fleets show the normal zoomed-out appearance and the precursor sentinel ship Justice is large.

When zooming in just a little more, my fleets change to show the normal zoomed-in appearance and the precursor sentinel ship is very tiny.  The other sentinel ships are OK.

When selecting the Onyx Hive to play, the description includes this information about their ships not repairing.

That can be assumed to mean the ships heal some other way, not that they don't heal at all.  Perhaps delete normally.  Derek reported on Discord that they don't heal at all.

Since their ships don't heal, there are some errors in their ships.

They can build a Caretaker ship, which heals ships, except that is doesn't.

Their Command ship "Victory" gives +2 Fleet Repair per Turn, but it doesn't.  Also, Turn should be Week.  Using Week instead of Turn may apply to Command ships of other races.

Their command ship "Hivebase One" gives "Allied ships within the Area of Effect Repair 4 Hit Points per turn."  Also, turn should be week.  I don't have any allies to check this, but my ships don't repair.  Does it mean allies or Onyx Hive ships?

Similar to ship healing is starbase healing.  I haven't had any damaged in battle, but I had something happen to a military base I built.  It started with 100/104 Hit Points.

It eventually "healed" to 104/104.

Bugs:
- (I reported it already): Your chosen civ gets lost and is changed to terrans. You need to go back to start, chose your civ again, do not go to victory options
- Orb of Draginol gets activated twice. Also if you start the event at turn 1 before chosing a tech it seems(!) like it does not work

Feedback:
- First asteroid mining: music changes but no video
- Performance issue still exists (medium zoom and alt+tab for example, switch to ideology screen solves it)

Requests:
- Governance focus: icons at reshuffle and tech library filter have different colors (I second what was postet at discord: all tech cards of one category should have the same color)
- Pressing 1-5 should center on the current selection. You could use 1 to zoom in and would not land in no man's space ;-)
- All descisions (improvements, events, recruiting, the more the better) changing ideology awareness: a hint how many of your people would like the change and how many are opposed

That happened to me when I tried it on a save from a previous version. I forget if the game was .75 and I loaded it under .76, or .76 and I loaded it under .77. Anyway, now that I've started a new game with .77 I haven't had a crash (yet) but the button still doesn't work.

You could use icons and tooltips. One suggestion (tooltips in better English and with more flare ofc! :D):

First case: the dominant ideology awareness does not change. Icon could be a green "="
Tooltip: X is still dominant with a majority of A. Take care of your next steps.
Second case: dominant ideology awareness loses its majority ( a ) or it completely flips ( b ). Icon could be a red "<->"
Tooltip ( a ): X loses its dominance. Approval bonuses and maluses will be removed.
Tooltip ( b ): The majority flips from X to Y! Supporters of Y are very pleased but those of X are almost in an uprise!

Tooltip (all): Supporters (green): # leaders, # citizens, other civilizations by name
Opposition (red): # leaders, # citizens, other civilizations by name

Very advanced: nested tooltips, e.q. for leaders to check their loyalty

There's a crash bug we have fixed internally where something is removing a ship from the list while the AI is looking at it.

In a previous post related to one of the Alpha versions, I reported and gave an example of extremely excessive experience being given to ships when I was playing as the Mimot Brotherhood.  Now, playing the Beta version, the only ships that have gained any experience are my survey ships.  None of my other ships appear to have gained any experience from winning battles.  Would you please have someone take a look at the code that was modified to fix the excess experience problem to see if they accidentally created a no experience problem?

They get experience just cannot promote when they get to the proper levels. This is a known bug. 

If you mouse over one of your Warships. This should give you a popup. You should see the word experience (??/??). After the next Anomaly you will see that all your ships in that fleet gained experience.

If this does not happen i.e. no experience gain, then you have discovered another bug and it needs to be reported with a save game (before/after) to the Developers. Schism Navigator can help you with that if needed.

First verify files this looks like a missing file problem.

The five icons across the top are not advisors. The advisors show up there when the purple Exclamation icon is highlighted.

The green with a planet in it should have replaced the advisors with the planet status information. Mouse over them they will tell you what info they provide. 

I know of no one else who has mentioned getting a black screen when they click the green icon that is why I suspect missing files which can happen in any game at any time but is more likely in Betas as one of the last steps is QC optimizing the game. So again, verify files. If after verifying this still happens follow the bug reporting instructions that Schism Navigator posted in the first post.

I read that as when they click on the actual advisor themselves (the citizens of alinor are unhappy) that's where it takes them to a blank screen (when it should take them to the colony directly) - I have a vague recollection someone posted something similar on discord but could be wrong

Not how I was reading his complaint. Was reading as he was clicking the green icon above the advisors.

Bug/Roadblock - Screen goes black when clicking on the middle advisor in this screenshot, the one that says "The citizens of Arrakis are unhappy.
