GC4 EA Feedback Test Branch | VERSION 0.75.276436

How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

How to tell which version you are on?

I've brought this to the attention of the team. Hopefully we can have a fix ASAP.

We have a theory that this is when using a custom faction made before in an older version of the game.

Actually, that's not the case.  I started a new game in this Beta version, said "No" to using prior customizations, and recustomized the Terran Civ.  I then saved the game.  Exited to the main menu.  Started a new game and when it asked if I wanted to use prior customizations, I said yes.  The Factions were greyed out when the new game loaded.

The problem with the Nanite Transmitter not spawning an Overlord ship also still exists in this version.

Per the change-log that Derek posted, the Minister of Recruitment was eliminated in this version and it does not appear on the Ministers screen.  However, it still appears as a researchable technology.  In addition, you still need this technology to access Level 2 Commanders vessels.

This all seems very inconsistent.

The Acquisitions tech does not award one free frigate.

After I complete the quest from the Kaxx to do some research for them, the other races always want to trade for it.  It does nothing for them.  Can it be made so that it can't be traded?

My starting sector is at one end of the main chain of sectors.  The Mimot are also in it.  I had an exploration treaty with them, so I could see where their ships were moving.  They had survey ships, constructors, colony ships, and military ships that seemed to be ignoring range limits and moving to the last sector of the chain.

Why are they ignoring the range limits?  Is it the same bug that has been in GalCiv3 since Crusade was released that allows AI ships to ignore range limits?

I'm not including all the probes, since they have unlimited range.

Also, why are the ships going directly to the sector at the end of the chain?  How do they know that sector exists?  How do they know how to get there in a straight line?  I know it is possible they have an exploration treaty with one or more of the races, but do they?

I have two saves that show this.  The first is at Week 145.  It shows one probe in the last sector and a lot of other ships in other sectors that are headed that way.

The second save is at Week 200.  I no longer have an exploration treaty with the Mimot, but I do have one with the Terran Alliance, so I can see some of the Mimot ships.  There is one constructor in the last sector next to some thulium where the Terran Alliance has built a starbase.  Was the constructor going there to build a starbase?  It is a long way from its home sector using the subspace streams, but it is just a very short distance ignoring the streams.  It still had to ignore the range limits to get there, unless that area with the thulium is considered to be in range by measuring the short distance.

I know ships can pass through areas that are out of range to get to an area that is in range.  Still, something is wrong here.

Finally, I used the console commands "fow" and "god" to see everything and to see where the Mimot ships were going.  For the save at week 145, they were sending constructors to various resources in the last sector, one colony ship to a colonizable planet in the last sector, military ships to attack the precursor sentinals in the last sector and caretaker ships to the tile in the last sector that is closest to their home sector.

For the save at week 200, they were sending multiple constructors to the same resources in the last sector, including the thulium already claimed by the Terran Alliance.  Some military ships were still going to the precursor sentinals.  The colony ship was going home because the planet had been colonized by the Krynn.

One other thing to note.  The last sector is the home sector of the Krynn, and the Mimot are at war with them at week 200.  They weren't at war at week 145.

Long post that was totally irrelevant to this thread once again I mis saw something in the original post.
