Recent version not compatible with Win11

For Curtains you find these system requirements listed on the product page:

Would you think that Windows 11 is above Windows 10? Then you fell into the same trap as I did. The system requirements refer specifically to a higher than 1809 Windows 10 version. No Windows 10 version can ever become Windows 11, because that is - Windows 11, a different animal. Actually a super-correct statement, but very misleading for most. Nobody will in practice exclude Win11 from it. A short message "Not yet compatible with Win11" would have given clarity and many cracks that customer confidence in Stardock will be getting, could have been avoided. More so that Stardock does not seem to belong to the kind of companies that need to create such little misunderstandings to be able to sell at all.

So, this is the surprising news that the Curtains installer will put on your screen, and you start wondering whether you by mistake have downloaded an older version. No. You didn't. Unfortunately.

So, I bought Curtains last week, incautiously skipping the trial while not having detected information that it could not run under Windows 11. Start11 and Fences do (by the way software I wouldn't want to miss anymore for a single day). So, ok, I thought and made peace with it, it's going to be a couple of weeks and then they update it.

Wrong again. According to this table, the installer might be sitting on my hard drive forever without ever getting the privilege to be installed on any of my Win11 machines, as Curtains does not seem to be on the list of Stardock-software that will be made compatible with Win11:

This finding crossed my personal red line and was the actual cause to sit down and write this message.

Although I probably have waived my 14 days money-back guarantee which is usually required to purchase and download a software in Europe: what is your take on a reimbursement in this cases?

Many thanks,
Joerg

If I had Win 11, I wouldn't buy Curtains because the system requirements on the product page DO NOT mention Win 11. That seems rather obvious to me but hey, maybe that's just me.

Yah, Win 11 would be somewhat "Above" Windows 10 one might think... 🤔

Install it anyway. Try it out see if works for you. I have found over the decades that just because Windows alert you to a program that is not compatible doesn't mean that it isn't. I would also urge you to report the issue with Stardock in all probability they will have the issue resolved in an update.

I would advice against that, since the Dev of Curtains mention that it is not compatible with Windows 11.

That may be true and you are correct for most people. But I've  been known to try to make things work that aren't supposed to. Eons ago in the  computer world. I bought a Te'sing labs 16 bit video card. When I installed it it failed to work because my RLL hard drive controller card used the same memory space. There tec support informed me that I had to set a jumper on the video card for 8 bit mode and install it in a 8 bit slot because in 8 bit mode it used a different memory address. I decided to take a shot I set the video card jumper to 8 bit mode but installed it in a 16 bit slot. I turned on the computer it booted up tested the video card and it was running in 16-bit mode using an 8-bit memory address. I called Te'sing labs tec support and talked to the same tech support person. They had two. I told him what I did. He did say to me, "it really works?" and he was going to look into it. Several weeks later I received a letter thanking me and they were going to recommend my solution. But if anyone is nervous or apprehensive about trying something out of the box so to speak I would recommend them not to do it. Many a time I have crashed my entire system and reinstalled windows. I just really enjoy making things work.

Merry Christmas and have a Happy and Safe New Year to you and your family, my friend.

Windows 10 64-bit (version 1809 and above) does not indicate compatibility with Windows 11.

Windows 10 64-bit (version 1809 and above) & above would indicate compatibility with Windows 11.

Since this thread is in the Stardock Support section the correct response is never attempt to install anything NOT supported on  your OS.

When Stardock's devs indicate something is not compatible it is particularly unwise to assume otherwise....;)

But it clear that Windows 10 build 1809 or higher is supported. And there is nothing about new Windows 11 or older Windows 8.1. Some people cannot read and think ?

The and above relates to the build of Windows 10 so that version of Windows 10 and versions above it up to the current version of Windows 10 as of the current time.

Windows 10 continues to exist as its own entity and will get updates as well as Windows 11.

I should make it clear that Curtains 1.x does not work on Windows 11 and should not be installed.  It would not cause crashes, but basically almost all the features would not work correctly.
