Fences 4 issue on Windows 11 Home Edition

Fences makes Windows explorer lag and crash

Hi, I have bought Fences 4 a few days ago and ever since i installed it on my windows 11 machine it often crashes my windows explorer, it also makes windows explorer laggy when switching between folders/going back or forward within folders or doing any task like renaming or moving files/folders.

I have a pretty beefy system so i am pretty sure it's not my specs and the issue only happened after i installed Fences.

Specs:

i7-10870H
RTX-3080
32GB DDR4 @3000MHZ
windows 11 running on 1tb nvme ssd

Hi, Thank you for your reply. Ok i will do that after work and get back to you.

Is there any way i can save my current configuration to import it later or i need to set it manually again?

If you also use Windowblinds that is the likely culprit even though it's Fences that is actually doing the crashing. Weird, huh? Try unloading Windowblinds first. That worked for me, not a single crash since I unloaded it so I sadly uninstalled Windowblinds  today until it is updated to work with Windows 11

Thank you for the suggestions, thought the only desktop customization app i am using is wallpaper engine, hmm i'm not sure that would be it? it's supposed to be just a background changer..

So i don't use windowblinds, only wallpaper engine. Do you think that would affect it?

Not positive of course but I doubt that would have any effect since the wallpaper engine doesn't utilize taskbar skinning. It seems the WIndows 11 taskbar is the thing that is off limits for customization, at least for now.

hmm this seems to be the case. If it is really Win11 fault i really hope they fix it as soon as possible, i really don't want to have to reinstall my windows

Hello ForsakenTwilight,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. You mentioned the lagging and crashing issue, while navigating folders inside a Portal Fences or Normal Fences? If its portal Fences, is that portal Fence connected to network drive or your local drive? Is Fences work as normal if you're not navigating into a Folder? Need more clear information on your issue, to understand it better.

Thanks

Hi, it's actually the normal windows explorer that's affected by fences, so its not a portal Fence or navigating through fence. Which seems really odd i know but it only started after installing Fences 4.

So for example, i was going from appdata to my user profile and it hangs when going back or forth and sometimes windows explorer crashes if i click too much, windows is installed on an NVMe so i've never experienced something like that before

And the issue stops as soon as you disable Fences? Something like below.

i tested when i purged Fences like suggested above, yes the issue was gone. But i did not try this checkmark

In my case, purge work for 1 or 2 hours...

I don't want to remake my fence config many time by day...
