How do you delete Universal apps in Windows 10

delete Windows 10 apps

I have Start 10 and am trying to delete a windows 10 universal app. When I try to delete it, Windows wants to delete ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe" /app" and will try to delete Start10 Launch.exe. This isn't what I want to do.

It appears Start10 rewrites the database so all apps go through Launch.exe.

What do I need to do to be able to delete an app instead of Start10 Launch.exe?

If necessary, how do I uninstall Start10 and restore the database?

Thanks.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not really sure, are you trying to uninstall an application?

Using Start10 in windows 7 style, I'm trying to uninstall a "Universal Application" that's shown on the right of the Start10 menu under "Universal Applications"; these are from the Microsoft store (e.g., Pandora), not a Program on the left side of the menu (e.g., Firefox).

The path name for all the things under "Universal Applications" has been modified to have "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe" before the application name, so the uninstaller tries to uninstall "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe", rather than the application.

What do I need to do to remove a Universal Application?

If I uninstall Start10, will that restore the paths to the Application and not go through "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe" to get to the application?

Thanks.

What you find inside of that folder in Start10 are just shortcuts, deleting them will have nothing to do with either uninstalling that application or removing Launch.exe.

That is correct.

If your goal is to remove them (the apps) from Windows 10 altogether, that is not a Start10 thing, its a Windows thing.

Or you could right click on the apps in all programs and pick uninstall. Or if win10/11 style menus also offered on right-click menu on pinned items.

If I right click on Pandora in Universal Apps and select uninstall from the popup menu, I get a window that says:

Program's exact name: Stardock Modern Mix

Full path to program's file or folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe

Found 1 Program: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\uninstall.exe" "/U:C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\uninstall\uninstall.xml"

This looks to me like it will uninstall Start10...

Note: the properties for the Pandora app says target location is Start10 and the target is

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe" /PandoraMediaInc.29680B314EFC2_n619g4d5j0fnw!App

When I installed Start10, there was some message about modifying a database (or something like that). Did this change the apps to shortcuts that go through launch.exe?

There are 2 ways to get to the Apps & Features settings page, easy way to uninstall apps:

  • Start>Run (Windows Key+R)>ms-settings:appsfeatures
  • Or type in search: ms-settings:appsfeatures

Hi,

Uninstalling via settings worked. It hadn't occurred to me to try that approach. It seems like it takes a different approach to uninstalling, because it didn't come up and say it was going to uninstall Start10 launch.exe.

Thanks!
