Why isn't food an accumulated resource?

Why isn't food an accumulated resource like the strategic resources are? It causes too many problems and makes no sense why their isn't food generation on the colony center or the planet that we start on, why are we going to space if we can't feed ourselves?

Good question. In in survival event, the priority of work is clean water, shelter, food.

You can be down 5 food and you population continues to increase regardless of the food balance. It makes no sense Food's just in there to tank your approval is what it appears.
