Start11 (0.9) Taskbar text colour

Customisation option to change?

My desktop pictured below is using the "Windows 10" setting of Start11 v0.9

I'm trying to get my clock and other icon text on it to be white, instead of black - refer bottom right that due to the taskbar colour being the same it's not visible

Note that the taskbar and start menu being black is what I want, as is the normal explorer windows being white. This is my desired set-up and under Windows 10, it was the same, except the clock was white

I have the following settings currently configured:

Start11 > Start Menu > Configuration > Visual Apperance [sic]

  • Use automatic colour for the start menu: Off
  • Make menu font bigger or smaller: 100%
  • Adjust menu transparency: 100% solid
  • Round corners: On
  • Animate menu: On
  • Offset: Only when centred start button
  • Custom menu background: Off

Start11 > Taskbar > How should the taskbar look?

  • Blue the wallpaper: Off (disabled in operating system settings)
  • Use automatic colour for the taskbar: Off (if I switch this to "On" the whole bar goes white, presumably due to me being in 'Light' mode in the OS. The text remains black. This is currently my only known workaround to get the clock visible)
  • Adjust taskbar transparency: 100% solid (putting this to 0% makes it transparent as expected but that just shows the black text on the black wallpaper, as I'd expect)
  • Apply a custom texture: Off

Windows 11 > Personalisation

The OS theme I'm using is the 'Light' mode (to make explorer white), which is of course making the taskbar white (until Start11 changes it via "use automatic colour" being "off") and so Windows is doing the black text because of this.

This is the crux of the issue, is there a setting available - or can Start11 expose it - that lets me toggle this text to white

I've tried switching the OS to 'Dark' mode - yes this gives me a black bar and white text but makes all my explorer windows dark. Maybe there's a way to toggle these back to white?

If anyone has any tips on if I'm doing something wrong or if this is by design (or is just not a feature in 0.9) then that's fine, it's not the end of the world, it just means I can't see the clock unless I do a workaround. Clocks are overrated anyway...

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, not sure why its not appear on your taskbar. Refer to below screenshot for my desktop with Black taskbar and Start11 Windows 10 menu.

Try this setting in Windows Personalization->Colors

Thanks

Resurrecting this thread with hopes that whatever mystery lies behind the missing screen shot can resolve my issues. I'm experiencing the same problem. Windows 11 Pro 23H2. Start11 v2.05

The only way I know to achieve this is to set the Default Windows mode to Dark. This will cause the taskbar text to be white. As long as you have the Default app mode set to Light, Explorer windows will have a white background.

Thank you. This was the answer I was looking for.

I guess if anyone else wanders to the post and has the same question.

Personalization >> Colors

Choose your mode >> Custom

Choose your default Windows mode >> Dark

Choose you default app mode >> Light
