Title bar text is very tiny

This is the only similar issue I could find, and it's with WindowBlinds whereas my issue lies with Groupy (the only Stardock software I have). The issue is that the title bars of many windows have extremely tiny text ever since installing Groupy. As far as I can tell, it happens to every window that doesn't have a custom title bar.

Groupy Version: 1.49.1

Windows version: 19041.1165

"sfc /scannow" is clean:

The command prompt window is maximized to the full 1920x1080 of my laptop screen. Notice how small the title bar text is compared to the Groupy tab text.

Things I've done that haven't worked:

  • rebooted
  • changed windows text size back and forth
  • turned Groupy off and ended the process

Thank you for the help.

What is your DPI \ Scale set to?

And do you have the text size to 100%?

Does this happen with the newly released 1.5 beta?

Display 1 is at 125%, Display 2 is 100%. I have now uninstalled groupy (because apparently if you end the service in task manager it needs to be uninstalled), and installed the 1.5 beta. The issue fixed itself after the uninstall. Since using the beta, I've noticed the tiny text only one time, it's been normal otherwise. Note that I used Groupy for about a week before it started originally, so the same progression may happen yet with this beta.

Just an update, the issue is happening just the same with beta 1.5.

Groupy cannot alter the OS system caption text font which is what the issue is here.

Something is interfering with it and a reboot will fix it but Groupy should not be the cause.  The most common cause is switching OS scaling factor.

It has been over a week since I uninstalled Groupy and restarted my computer, and the issue hasn't come back at all. There are no coincidences here, it is definitely Groupy causing it.

I also use Groupy and started noticing the same issue about a month ago. It only happens on some applications. A restart fixes it for a day or so. I first notice this on my own application I was building and thought I was doing something wrong. I made sure to set my app to let Windows handle DPI and tried everything I could find but nothing worked. Then I noticed it also happens with Command Prompt, Blender, and Tortoise Git also. I have a super ultra-wide monitor (Samsung CRG9) and my text scaling is set to 100%.

I would be interested if a log off of the account and then back in resolves it instead of a reboot.

I've been encountering the same issue after using groupy for maybe a week or so (by now I'm one month in). I have a high-res laptop screen with 250% scaling that I frequently connect to and disconnect from low(er)-res external monitors w/o rebooting. As described in the issue, the titles of various non-grouped windows are tiny, as if the texts were shown at high resolution of the laptop on the low-res external monitor (as it occurs with apps w/o proper support for high-res displays), except they are tiny also on the high-res laptop monitor. My guess is that it occurs when connecting and/or disconnecting to the external monitor w/o rebooting, but I haven't systematically tested this.

Today brought a new wrinkle: Instead of being tiny, some titles (the usual suspects) are suddenly huge, as if the texts were shown at the low resolution of the external monitors on the high-res laptop monitor, except they are huge also on the low-res external monitor -- so the exact opposite of the tiny titles issue, but surely caused by the same underlying issue. (The titles exceed the height of the title bar, as does the background color behind the text.)

(Probably the issue is the difference in scaling between the monitors rather than the difference in resolution as worded above, but I'm not an expert in this.)

This is not a deal breaker (groupy is too useful for that), but still a bit annoying and a fix would be greatle appreciated. Thanks for looking into it.

I experience the exact same behaviour when Groupy is active. I use three monitors with one at 150% scaling factor while the others remain at 100%. Every other day or so, the window titles suddenly become tiny. A reboot fixes it for quite a while but it eventually reoccurs.

Groupy is indeed an amazing help. But I would greatly appreciate if this really annoying bug could be fixed.

Thank you so much for all the effort you put into your software-development.

I seem to have the same issue, had it with Groupy and now also with Groupy 2. Also I had it with Windows 10 and it remained after the update to Windows 11. I have two 4k screens at 150%.

I can confirm, that it sometimes goes away, but after a while comes back.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Before you installed Groupy 2. Did you uninstall Groupy first? If not, try this, uninstall Groupy 2 reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Install Groupy 2. Reboot again after and test it. Report back.

Thanks

If you use the SystemParametersInfoForDpi function in your code, it may be the cause of the problem. Read more here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1289843/systemparametersinfofordpi-will-corrupt-the-window

We were aware that a query about any dpi under 96 will break stuff in the OS badly but I wasn't aware of any issues with those apis as long as the call was 96 or higher but will investigate further just in case things are more broken than we thought.

How a query breaks things like that is curious.

Any chances on fixing the issue?

Another question: Since Groupy 2 has been released will old Groupy still get updates? Or at least this one fixing the issue with small font in the title bar?
