Start11 Beta .55 Update Issue Report Thread

With the Start11 .55 beta update release today, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.  

Obtaining the update:

Object Desktop members can get the beta from within Object Desktop Manager with 'show beta downloads' enabled:

Individual purchases (as well as Object Desktop Members) can also be obtained from your account page:

Reporting an issue:

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)
  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen
  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive services (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube) and link included in your post.  Images can be directly added.
  • If there are specific apps that Groupy does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Start11 Beta .55 Update Changelog

  • *Center taskbar buttons on Win10*
  • Removed white flash on open of slider dropdowns when on Win11 in dark mode
  • Improved performance of opening taskbar page in config
  • Fixed issue with when config window is inactive, clicking on the breadcrumb bar area does not give the window focus
  • Config now translucent on Win11 when active and transparency enabled in the OS
  • Start menu less wide on high dpi setups
  • Edge lines in config wider in 150, 175% scaling modes
  • Fix for start menu closing sometimes when clicked from autohide taskbar
  • Fix on Win10 for issue with start menu closing on occasion due to News and Interests taskbar button
  • Fixed settings link on start menu not looking up translations correctly
  • Added Taskmanager link to right-click menu on Start11 start button when not in Win+X mode
  • Places list screen updated to better match new UI visuals
  • Blur taskbar option disabled on Win11 when operating system setting for transparency effects is disabled
  • Fixed slow moving of focus bar on left hand side of config when at higher dpis
  • Configuration screen can now be resized for smaller monitors and will gain scrollbars when required
  • Taskbar colour is now correctly applied when blur is disabled on Win11
  • Fixed taskbar alpha option to apply when OS transparency settings are disabled on Win11
  • Fixed taskbar alpha reset to default option to default to the correct values on Win11
  • Fixed resource leak when drawing menu on Windows 11
  • Menu now animates in and out correctly when taskbar is placed at the top of the screen on Windows 11
  • Menu now opens and closes correctly when the taskbar is placed at the top of the screen on Windows 11
  • Scaling on the right-hand side no longer double scales the shutdown button margins. The higher the dpi, the more obvious the issue would be.

Known issues:

Centered taskbar icons

Win10: Once the taskbar buttons have been centered via the Start11 config, if disabled later, they will remain centered on anything other than the main monitor.  This will be addressed in a future update.

Win11: Works as intended

Start11 menu not showing on anything but the main

Win10: Works as intended

Win11: Start11 menu only shows on main

I purchased Start11 on August 10, 2021. Start11 version .55 does not appear in my Account Downloads or Order History.

Im still not seeing the link. I'm logged in but it's telling me I'm not logged in I can post here with my login password but it doesn't accept my password to download. When I click on the link to reset my password or is it does is take me back to the page to sign in.  I'm not sure how I can post here being logged in but can't access my account. Could you please post a link to reset my password because I'm not seeing a link to reset my password when I click on the link to reset my password.

I apologize about being an a$$. I'm having health issues but there's still no excuse for the way I've acted. If you want to delete my post I Don't Mind and  I understand because they really have nothing to do with issues with start 11. I did follow your link and I'm still waiting to get an email hopefully it will come soon. Again I apologize for the way I've acted.  I have non stop vestibular migraines along with neuropathy for about 3 months now. But like I said it's really no excuse for being an a$$.  In all actuality I gladly pay $30 just for start 11.

Kind of weird if I follow the posted links to sign in and download  start11.55 it won't let me sign in but if I hit the little black Avatar at the top of the page and go to downloads I was able to find 11.55 and download it. So I'm going to install it could be my browser or the fact that I'm using Android or other numerous things. Again to all thank you.

There was a bug reported with the first beta version and I got a reply that it will be fixed.
But with the next version there is still the same error with the language.

When not using Start11 search settings (image below) and I click on the Start11 menu and start typing to search, it always omits the first character.



So, for example. If I am looking for Calculator, when I type Calculator, I always get alculator.
If you pause for a second or two and type slowly, it doesn't happen. But that's annoying waiting to type.

If I'm on .5 and check for updates it says Start 11 is up-to-date. Is that normal, if .55 is available?

Running .55 now, updated manually. Currently on W10 19043.1165. When going into the Settings > Start Menu > Change visual settings. One can scroll down past the normal settings and see some weirdness:

Thanks for reporting this.

We will make sure thats cleaned up for the next beta.  Some of the UI is still in flux and that particular page is due to see an overhaul shortly but those bits shouldn't have been left visible.

Settings > Start Menu > Change what the menu should show:

This option was grayed out in .5, when using modern theme without icon. It is no longer grayed out. Turning it off and on again doesn't actually do anything. I think it should remain grayed out.

One last thing, concerning "*Center taskbar buttons on Win10*". I really like that feature (both alignment options work), but the Start button itself is not being centered in W10 together with the other buttons. Is that to be expected?

When the taskbar is set to auto hide I have to left click on the start button then right click to open the win x menu.

Taskbar / Taskbar blur, transparency, and color / Adjust taskbar transparency / [Settings]

Win11 variant... The default is 50%. Set some other value (I used 85%). The change is made and holds when you exit the configuration tool.

Problem: Reopen the configuration tool and open the taskbar transparency setting. The setting reverts to the default 50% and you need to set a different setting again.

Win10 variant... This issue doesn't happen. When you reopen the transparency setting, the setting that you chose is unchanged as should be the case.

Windows Start Menu 11  v 0.55

Hi 

Is the ability to change the start button icon ( not its position ) , a change on the cards for this version  , as in properties of  Start 10 ?

The default Microsoft blue icon is a bit bland !

The second issue should not be the case.  Is this a primary or secondary monitor?

When a window intersects the taskbar with blur enabled mouse inputs slow to a crawl (The cursor will slowly yet smoothly execute the movements made with your mouse) until the window stops intersecting the blurred UI element  You also cannot use the keyboard to input while this is occurring.

A workaround is to just disable blur on the taskbar.

Does the same happen if you do not have Start11 installed?

I ask as the taskbar is blurred without Start11 too and I suspect this is an OS level problem rather than something specific to Start11.

A low end graphics card is a possible reason if it struggles with the blur.
