Stardock Fences is busted

No way to lock and unlock Fences 3.1.3

It is frustrating how going from Windows 10 to Windows 11 has broken Fences. There is no way I can find to unlock or lock the Fences. It used to be in View, but no longer. All that I have in View is:

  • I have purged and reinstalled Fences (file size 4724kb)
  • I have installed and uninstalled earlier versions of Fences.
  • I downloaded the latest version again and again directly from Stardock
  • I have tried to Lock using an older description of the Registry keys written in 2019 (ICKU Software|Fences adds Lock to Registry. Unlock does not seem to work.

Nothing works. Since you have a near monopoly for this type of app, I believe you owe us to fix it quickly.

Start 11 works, as do the other Stardock software I have tried. But my clients and I are tearing out what few hairs we have left.  Would you please fix this?

I am on Windows 11 Pro Version 21H2 BExperience Pack 1000.22000.160.0

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. From what I read, Fences is not officially compatible with Windows 11 yet.

I'm running Win 11 (Insider Program) Beta 1000.22000.160.0 as well, and I was able to find the "Lock/Unlock" Fences (Version 3.1.3.3), all I did was right click (On Desktop), then select "more options" at the bottom, then go to "view", then near the bottom is the option to "Lock/Unlock Fences, unless I mis-read your comment....

You did NOT misread. Thank you.

The instructions for Fences, however, do not make the distinction you so clearly did. Clicking on the Fence title or in "Customize Fences" also has "View." I included a snippet of the View that I looked for in "Customize Fences" and in the actual Fence itself within my "bug" report. I never did click on a blank spot because I never did anything on a blank spot concerning configuring Fences.

Why is there suddenly a third "View" that a user needs to address? Yes, I missed it after four hours of poking around, but I believe that Stardock has to be less cavalier about the multiple locations we are required to correlate.

You solved the problem. How do I give you accolades?

No accolades necessary, just out to help where I can. |-)
