Licensing/EULA Confusion

Individual User Install Limit vs. Business Entity

I feel like my question is very similar to this one, but the posted answer does not address my question.  In particular, I am not interested in corporate/volume pricing.  I posted a reply, but did not get a response - perhaps due to the age of the original post - so I am posting as a new topic, with a slightly different direction, based on other things I have read in the meantime.

According to the EULA, "An Individual User may: Install, use and activate one (1) copy of the Software on one (1) unique personal computer that is owned by you for your personal use." and "Install the Software on another computer if the installation will not exceed the individual user activation limits set forth above."  Based on other discussion found in the forums, I get the impression that this is (or perhaps was, from some different wording in the past) understood to mean that individual users of Fences could buy a single copy for use on their home/personal computer, and also use it on their work laptop.  Is this a correct understanding of the EULA, for using Fences?

If not, then how do I properly get and activate a copy of Fences for use on my work laptop?  Since it is not a personal computer, owned by me, does this mean I would need to purchase it separately as an individual user for my home computer and again as a "business entity" for my work laptop?  As the end-user on my work laptop, would I actually need to have my company buy it for me, as the "business entity", for my use?

As I mentioned in my previous post/comment, I expect my company would buy it for me, but I am trying to avoid the activation problem I ran into with Fences 2, where I needed to have the account password, which was known by the purchaser, but not by me (i.e. the one doing the install).  I would be happy to pay for it, myself, to avoid that issue, but if I can just buy one copy for use at home and at work, that would be even better.  So - how does the EULA apply to my situation?

That you use it on a personal PC at work is of no concern or consequence to us.

I feel like I was misunderstood - to be plain, which do I do?

  1. Buy one copy and use it both on my personal (home) computer and my work/laptop computer
  2. Buy two copies (one for home, one for work)
  3. Buy one copy for home and get my company to buy a copy for the work machine?

1. ....;)

The reasoning is that you will only be using it on one computer at any one time as you can't be in two places at once...;)

  1. No (One licence for one piece of software for one machine)
  2. Yes
  3. No (or Yes if you're able to activate it with your company's e-mail/password, but that doesn't seem like a viable option according to the info you have given above.

But friends or family or whoever might be using his home computer when he's at work? The EULA does not specify the user, only the computer.

The logic is the license is for your use specifically....your home computer...your work computer.

Your brother-in-law's won't be your computer.  That's the distinction...;)

For those who may come looking for an official answer, I messaged support privately and got a more helpful reply.  They really do not care where you use the product (e.g. individual user can purchase for use on a business machine), just that you purchase a unique license for each unique PC where it will be used.  So, in my case - two copies to use it on two machines (i.e. JanOscar was correct).
