VIEW PORTAL FILES AS LIST

why can't this be done

Since I haven't seen an answer to someone's question, I'll re-ask: why can't portal views open as "lists?" Every single time I restart my computer, the portals default to large icons and I have to change them, one by one, to list view. How can I get view to default to "list?"

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I can't reproduce your issue. If I set a portal fence to use "List" it stay as list even after I reboot. Below is a video on what I see.

Might need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows version, please use Winver.exe for full version numbers.
  2. Fences version.

Thanks for your help! Fences version is 2.13. Window 10 Professional Version 1909   os build 18363.1198.  If you can help me edit the  registry or something, that would be great. My fences always re-start with a big icon instead of a list.

Sorry I can't help you on that. I would highly recommend you to upgrade to Fences 3.X for better compatibility and support with current Windows 10 version.

Why? Windows works great. Why would I pay for a newer version, especially when there might be problems with it (I've read lots of reviews.) Also, I use a program that won't run with a later version of Windows. Rather than pay for a new version of Fences and a new version of Windows, I can easily live with this "list view" situation.

The point is, why would I want to pay more money when my present Fences works fine except for that one issue. I think I can live with it.

0817_2021 Tue ... I just installed Fences for the first time on the 30 day free trial.  Running version 3.1.3.3 and Windows 10 Pro 21H1 19043.1165 which should be the latest version.

I also cannot get the "View > Details" option.  I get only the "Icon" view options.  Nothing else.

That's because it's not a folder portal, but a fence with shortcuts. No details view available for that.
