Game Crashes After Start-Up Movie following 4.1 and 4.2 updates

I have purchased through Steam the base game and all of the expansions, civilizations packs, and ship packs and everything has been working for years without issue.  Recently, Steam indicated that the new 4.1 and 4.2 update was available and was being downloaded.  After the updates were downloaded, the game stopped working.  I can open up the game.  It will play the start up screen from Retribution with the Drath and Drengin then the start-up movie between the Thalian and Human and then before going to the game setup screen where you can load a game or start a new one it crashes and gives me the following error message:
 
Steam recommended I check the integrity of game files.  If now references four (4) files unverified.  I run the check disk and fix it.  I run the check disk again and it says all files are verified.  I then open up the game and the same issue repeats itself.  After repeated attempts at these solutions, I then uninstalled the game from my computer from Steam and then reinstalled the game twice but the problem still persists.  I am unsure if my older computer was made obsolete by something upgraded in the new updates.  Anyone with information, please assist me as I am unsure what else to do.

There is no actual error message.  It just takes me to a screen that says game crashed.  It has a place where I was asked to submit what the problem was and send it to I assume Stardock or Steam.  I completed this a couple of times, but heard nothing.  There is no specific error message when the game fails except this Game has Crashed screen.

Go to \Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade and delete the file Prefs.ini

If that doesn't work rename the folder GC3Crusade to something else, like GC3CrusadeOld

Thank you for the information, unfortunately it did not solve my issue.  I deleted the Prefs file, but it did not solve the problem.  I then renamed the GC3Crusade folder to GC3CrusadeOld folder.  This still did not solve the problem.  I deleted the old GC3Crusade file and this still did not solve the problem.  When I start up the game it still plays the start up screens and the initial start-up movie, but then immediately crashes without going to the start screen for a new game or load game etc.  Below is the Game Crashed error message I am constantly receiving each time I try and start the game.  Here it is below:

Galactic Civilizations III Looks like the game crashed... Information is automatically collected for crashes, but it may be helpful if you briefly told us what you were doing at the time.  There is then an area to briefly describe what you were doing when the game crashed and the second space is for you email.  Then you hit the submit button.

In the folder \Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade there is a file named debug.err. Either upload it to a file sharing site and post a link here, or open it with a text editor and post the contents here.

Send me a PM with the email address you used to submit the crash reports, thus it will be easier to find them. Click on my username on this post and select Private Message.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

In those, it turned out to be Intel video driver issues.  Please review them and see if that too could help here.

Sean,

I ran the Intel Driver and Software Update and could not find any available updates for my system.  So unable to make any corrections.  I then went into Windows 10 - Virus Protection and turned off the Ransomware setting.  This did not solve the problem.  I went back in and turned it back on and it still did not solve the problem.  I then went into the Pref file and altered the data to read from Fullscreen=1 to Fullscreen=0 and DisplayResolution=-1 x1 to DisplayResolution=1920 x 1080.  This did not solve the problem either.  I reran the Steam local files and still found the four (4) files need validation.  I supposedly corrected this and run the local file validation again and it came up as no issues.  Tried to relaunch the game and I ran into the same issue with the game crashing after the launch screen human and thalian movie.  Some of the information in the other threads are beyond my current level of knowledge about how and what to change.

I was really hoping this would help solve the problem, but so far nothing.  Should I try uninstall the game and then reinstall the game from Steam?  Thank you for your assistance, but alas I am still at Square 1 in solving this problem to play my favorite game.

Sure but if you have an Intel graphics chip, I still think that is the likely cause of the issue (a dated driver for it).

Not sure if the reinstall fixed the problem, but I have been able to play the game again fully.  I wanted to wait to respond until I had played through a complete game without problems.  I have started my second game and all still is working well.  Thank you for your assistance.  I hope this problem does not happen again, since I am unsure what exactly fixed the problem.  I am just glad it is currently resolved.
