I have a question: Why even keep the wallpaper section? This question has been brought up many times and I think that unless the wall is for a specific theme or skin, they should be rejected. It will skim out tons of crap. Think of the bandwidth too! Its insane how many walls there are on here. I'm sure its worse on other sites (DeviantArt etc.) but still... Other exceptional works that are OS based like the Aqua Series by Jairo should of course be allowed, along with Longhorn and XP packs, but I think that 90% of the walls are not neccesary. Its nothing against the artists personnally. I'm sure that they put alot of work into them, but alot of the stuff just isnt neccesary. I think its time for a wall cleanup. What do you folks think?

That would still leave 2422 walls in the section. But I see your already making exceptions. Jairo's can stay even though he doesn't have blinds to go with them. So why not make a few more exceptions, then we can be back to over 4000 walls. Either you are or your not.

I think Çërêb®øJÐ is right. IF a wallpaper goes with a WB skin, it stays if not, go to devianArt! But in Jairo's case WOM is right. But one thing is true: Too many wallpapers with undefined shapes, I just use the wallpaper that comes with the suite, but I would like to say that I would keep wallpapers like Jairo's, because you can understand what's happening in the wallpaper. I will go for plain, easy to the sight wallpapers. I'm right or I'm wrong?

There are a lot of nice walls we would lose that way. It isn't so much that there is a problem with the wallpaper section; it is just that there is so much complaining, blaming, arguing that comes to the boards. (that columbine statement really bothered me, it's like we should feel guilty or something for having standards)

Quality Walls bring something only they can bring to the sites Skinning Authors.

They give mood, lend to creative flows and the worst is only as bad as each individual views it.

You know, I've noticed a cycle here on the subject of Walls. Someone gets miffed and posts questioning why their work of art is not accepted *it's called standards* and then we go into the downward spiral of why are they even here to begin with. Then a little bit of time will pass and it all happens again.

Something that I think many who post about their walls not being accepted would do well to realize there is a number of reasons and if it happens to be the quality. Then it is a good sign that they need to expand their skill sets in Digital Art.

Also, some that are packed with Skins and Themes that look great need to be compressed. For the life of me I do not understand why a Gray Scale graphic needs to be saved without compression has to end up being 3.5 megs.

Just because you can get the pixels pretty doesn't mean it is usable across the spectrum of systems people use. There are to many different Graphic compression apps out there for a wall to be so freaking big.

The issue of completely removing the wall section has been discussed over and over with an end result that if that section was to be eliminated, so would be many users that visit the site for the wallpapers and along with that hundreds of artist that only work with wallpapers.
It has also been noted many times before, that people are going to complain regardless.
I voted to keep moderation as it was before. The quality of the work was better and the bandwidth was at bay.
Removing the section and keeping only the hand full of artist that do excellent walls would be unfair to all the other registered artist and users that want to make contribution to the site.
Going back to the way walls were moderated before is a far better deal.
People are still going to complain, but at least the quality of the work will be better.

In another note. I think it would be a good idea if to the upload notification, admins would add something like- If the work you submited its deleted from the list, means that it didnt meet the guide lines of the site.
Or something like that. This way there wont be so many posts about--- Why I cant see my waiting for approval work anymore?-

That's a good idea, A_67. At least if there's a little more info about 'how things work', it may cut down on the 'I don't have a clue. Please tell me what's going on' type threads.
Also, someone earlier posted a question/suggestion about making the guidelines clearer or more in line with what will be accepted, etc.
I'm not sure how much either of these ideas would help but I can't see where it would hurt.

Or maybe a auto-responce email to them telling them it is in the submission que and if it does not show up within 24 - 72 hours then it did not pass moderation.

If this is the case then email (fill in blank) and request a cratique.

Then create a admin/moderator open email account that forwards or such as desired, run filters on the emails for specific phrases and or words that are not acceptable and have auto reponce form mails where needed or if desired...

Me agree,I get tired of seeing the same lame-brained post by people who cant be bothered with details.Cant ask for help in the help section...etc...
I would like to see rejected walls show in your 'my skins' list as...PU or 'Geez that sucked' or 'dont call us,we'll call you'.

Good one Apocalypse, to add that sentence when you upload. At the same time I would ask to change the written guidelines to the 'wincusto' standard. It's better to rule out confusion beforehand than having questionmarks why it was rejected.

I do however disagree with this sites stance that walls are not skinning.They are probably the first thing anyone does to mod their PC.Can you imagine being stuck with a solid blue background?Or bliss?
And I dont want to go somewhere else for my walls(with the exception of MX Skinz).I like it here.A lot of message board regulars would be gone without the wall section.

Exactly, though it is a sad truth that 90% of what someone spends time typing for Guide Lines and such never get read. People click past it just as fast as they click the OK when an error popups in Windows. Get's to be the samething when doing tech support, "I keep getting this error" ok "What did it say" ah "I don't know I just click OK or the X and never read it"...

Or Help files... Seems to me many do not take time to read them because most of the questions are answered there pretty much...
