Just Wondering

Yes, I already have those and use them often, it's just that I'd like a few more Steampunk themes to cycle my desktop more frequently.

What would be really great is to combine dragons and Steampunk themes to create mechanical-looking dragons.  Yeah, that would be really cool.

Another great idea would be a pirate theme with Steampunk elements. In fact, I have a pirate tattoo on my upper right arm that has some Steampunk elements to it.... it is a cover up of 3 older tatts. 

Hopefully other skinners will see this post and share their thoughts on these ideas.  

Oh, and BTW, this isn't just for me.  I thought maybe other members of the community would appreciate these ideas as well.  Also to add to the Steampunk idea, parchment and old documents would be great for fonts and colour schemes.... like browning and yellowish looking papers with antique appearance.

Although, I'm no where near the caliber as Nikos....

No worries, Don, you have already done some great Steampunk WBs and I love 'em.l  So yeah, if you have other projects on, I understand and will be patient 'til you have the free time and inclination.

Moreover, I do not think any skinner is better than another, you all have greater skills than I in skinning and I have no end of respect for you all... and no matter who does it, Steampunk themes from any one of you is a treasure in my book.  And yeah, Steampunk dragons are on my list of the best themes around.... as so it is with Steampunk and pirate themes.

And then there's pirate and dragon themes.  Stardock released a pirate and dragon theme, and as I recall they were very popular, so why not pirate and dragon themes with Steampunk elements?

I dunno, what does one do to encourage community interest and participation?

It's definitely not like it was back in the day, I remember when I was a newbie, how there was lots of community participation, such as: community skinning suites by all artists, skinning Olympics, general enthusiasm by the community, not so much now, we're in different times my friend, it's sad....well, Cheers mate!

Well, there are only about 5-6 skinners left on the site that do WB's, so I guess 2 responses isn't that bad really. Besides doing my own designs, I am already involved in a project right now so I could not help you out right now anyway. Yes, this site is totally dying, there is no community anymore, and people just don't really care about skinning.  I have my thoughts as to why... very saddening.

I just thought you were wanting to talk to the skinners, so I wasn't going to intrude.

Sure, I like Steampunk skins, I have almost all of them that have been done.  Also like other antique-type skins.

A post in another thread prompted me to re-install the Dragon skin, which I had cycled out as I do - the pile gets too big.  Always liked that one too.

A dragon/Steampunk could be cool.  Maybe brassy/coppery with scales and armor and such.

Yeah, the entire community, both skinners and community members, has dramatically dropped off since I first came here in 2004, and it's sad because not only have new skins diminished, so too have community members.... and the forums at times are almost dead.  Wincustomize was up there with the top sites on the net, now it is barely limping along.  That's why I tried to arouse some community interest with these skinning ideas.

Yes, it's a far cry from where the site was healthy and skinners of all persuasions were in abundance.  I have nothing against dreams, in fact I have several, but dreams dominate the new skins galleries these days and other categories seem to be disappearing. 

Thing is, it's not just WBs I was hoping skinners would be interested in creating.  There's IconPackager; individual icons; Curtains; Dreams; CursorFX and even DX themes for those who still use it.  I know that MS has hard coded a lot of stuff and made it difficult or impossible to skin various elements in Win 10, but there is still much that can be skinned, and that's what I'm hoping for.... skins that can and will alter the OS default UI where possible.

That's okay, Jan, not everyone has the same tastes.  Steampunk is something that I like, and the idea of adding some Steampunk elements pirate and dragon themes is to add a bit of variety to the skins galleries.  It doesn't even have to be just pirate and dragon themes, either.  It could also be medieval type themes; fantasy themes, perhaps even transport oriented themes such a trains, cars and planes, etc. 

The Steampunk elements don't have to be too full on, either, just something to compliment the original idea.  In fact, The above mentioned theme ideas don't necessarily have to contain Steampunk elements.... they could easily stand on their own without them.

Like I said before, I just want to put some ideas out there to hopefully boost community interest and participation to hopefully save WC from oblivion and going the way of Skinalicious and other skinning sites.

No, the post is intended for the entire community, skinners and users alike.  I too like antique-like themes and have somewhere the near full set of 'The British Library' icons from DeviantArt, just got to find which drives they're on.  I had a look over there recently and not all the sets are available any more.  The creator moved them to another site due to site restrictions at DA, and now the links are dead, so now I have no idea how to get them all.  However, there were some smaller packages over there last time I logged in, but that was a while ago now.  Here's a link to some that are still over there.
