Is the WinCust. Browser getting replaced?

I just updated Stardock Central and noticed the new browsing features. Is this a beginning of a Phaseout of the SkinBrowser? I mean, it is a pretty nice feature for SDC to do everything, so this is no gripe, just curious.

Yes, we are working on integrating the browser into SDC.  SDC is going to be a super-program that has everything Stardock in it.  The browser function just makes sense to be in it.  That way, you can flip between downloading and browsing and whatever else you need to do to keep up to date.  I think it will be really cool when it's done, and will cut down on the programs that you need to keep track of.

I'm already hooked on using SDC to run all my programs.  So, I'm pretty happy about the idea of having the browser built in so that I can launch everything from one location!

Let me clarify: the standalone browser is not going away and WC subscribers can continue to use that. But, it's hard to dislike it being available through SDC to registered users as well.

There's also a new tray component coming next week for WC subscribers. It'll notify you as to new updates, new skins, and more. If you've got SDC or the WC Browser installer, it works in conjunction with them as well.

Honestly though, I'm thrilled to have this directly in SDC. It's far more convenient as I often have that running.

I agree on the integration. It is a great idea. I now use the Component Tray to stay on top of all Stardock updates

Will SDC be able to handle Subscriptions in place of the Browser? It would be great if it could handle all accounts...OD... WC Subcriptions and such

Yep, that is the plan.&nb; SD Central will become the Central location for everything Stardock.  It just takes awhile to get everything integrated into it.  It's all "planned", though, just like the universal use of the Stardock.net account for logging into sites and SD Central (as well as additonal goodies that are planned but not announced yet).  It will just keep getting better

KarmaGirl, how about us that use the SkinBrowser only? Will we still beable to do so, or are they going to phaze it out?

I haven't heard anything about phasing it out.  I think that we are just
working on getting it built into SDC as a service at this point (since you have
to register it in SDC to download it through SDC it makes sense that you can
also use it in SDC).

As I didn't use SDC to download the SB, and I really don't use SDC I was wondering.

Stardock,

You just made my day (o.k. - not really day, but how about late evening?). I never liked the WC Browser - it just never really worked that great for me. I just tried the new version of SDC and am quite happy with the new features - it just makes good sense that all can be accessed from one place. I will be uninstalling the WC Browser this evening. Thanks!

Doh! Although I let SDC update I didn't notice the new features. Thanks to this thread I've got at least a clue in that regard.

Since I updated SDC all but 1 of the Sticky threads have disappeared in General Discussion.........  0 showing in Help, and 2 showing in Skinning.

Yeah, I have the same thing. Since WC Browser doesn't have any (and never has) and IE site shows the correct number my guess is that T-Man ran out of daylight....maybe tomorrow

I can't log into my Stardock.net account in the new SD Central > I can still log into my Stardock.net account in WC and my web browsers (IE and Mozilla). I can't figure out what's wrong.

Click on 'Edit Stardock Account' (while you're there make sure info is right) click ok and then re-start SDC. For some reason in the past, that sometimes jump starts the proggie. You can also switch your connection and see if that server lets you in.

right click on the discussion tool bar where the different sections are displayed and then click reset... it should download all of the messages on each respective section, dunno about you watched threads though
you might also be able to move your discussion files from the WinCBrowser into the SDCBrowsers folders for discussions?
