Wincusto Skin browser ideas...

I know it has allot of feature already, like mIRC chat, access to the message board, skins and Text Ads on this site and others with Text Ad advertising on it.

But I just thought of some more stuff. Since I have been studing about on-line systems and group ware programs with a sense of what is called knowledge base systems I think the browser can become something very special.

Like for example, with joeuser.com getting a face lift, that too can be part of the browser such that if your browsing another site *gasp* you can put the link on your blog just like Google's blog thingy.

The blog will become the space for all the artist (if you are one) work to show or just som rantings. Bewteen the blog and the bowser you can select your favorite artists and favorite works and display it in a fashion that shows a picture of some of them.

Now here is the kicker... you can see who is on-line right now! Ah ha!

Tabbed browsing... another cool feature

Imort/Export IE Favorites (Like Netscape)

Job links for artists

Job postings

What happened to Skin Cast? That will be needed in the future (after mid 2004 IMHO)

Notification of someone posting a message on your work or thread (by e-mail of to the cellphone)

3D browsing: 3D world for us to meet our avatar alter egos, have parties, just hang

What do you think?

I think GR and T-Man gonna get you !

sounds great actually...

Also the ability to force screen shots into a click able thumbnail when posted in a thread so when someone is on at 56k they can enlarge then ones that catch their eye but do not have to wait forever for the thread to load because of the huge graphics being loaded in the thread.

just a thought...

3D browsing is an interesting idea, but I think could be implemented best once Longhorn is on the scene according to early reports. I've tried 3D worlds, and they are interesting, but lack depth (of course being on 56k my viewpoint is skewed).

I do like the ability to force thumbnails in the MB especially now that there can be images. Obviously ppl are supposed to keep them from being too large, but even a 640x480 image can take time to download on 56k if there are several of them. Also I don't believe everyone who uploads images makes them web friendly as I've seen some move quick and others just drag, with no visible difference in quality.

If WC truly wants the skinbrowser to become an everyday browser also, then certainly it would need a lot more than just tabs, etc. I think it would be a better alternative if they could construct a sidebar extension for Firebird (and other browsers) that mimics the skin listings, etc. As nice as the skinbrowser is, I just can't see making it my browser for regular pages, at least considering its current setup.

The 3D worlds idea only became something of interest after I read a story on the amount of DSL users increasing and surpassing dial up.

There are only 2 that I know of and I don't know of any company who uses most or all of the features they have.

I have contacted them to see how something like this can be intergrated and it looks promising... even on dail-up.

I would also like to ad as a feature to have RSS news feeds from this site and other skin sites (or blog sites). Or maybe an alert system of favorite news on a piticular story...

I don't know, I'll make a list.

3D Browsing isn't that new of an idea. I was webmaster of Virtual Reality Mall (now defunct), and worked on the VRML (Virtual Reality Markup Language) version of the Yahoo search engine. The biggest issue in my opinion, is that the navigation system of the 3D browsers isn't easy enough for most users. Aside from the fact that most people can't think 3 dimensionally. Hey.. it worked for Kirk in Star Trek.

It would seem in the tech world there is not to much focus on the UI or the GUI of the application. While doing research I noticed the interfaces and how they sucked.

Navigation through the worlds are pretty simple though... Not sure what to think about the 'people don't think in 3D' comment. I'm not a good test subject for that being a past architecture major.

Navigation around the worlds can be hard though at first, but DSL makes that easier because you can move faster and get all the graphics for your world sooner.

anyway, not sure that feature would work to well but it was a thought

Speaking of worlds and 3D. Anyone read this months Scientific America?

Seems that the Quantum Mechanics they are using for figuring out Super Massive Black holes has opened up the possibilities of our lives being Holograms

Matrix *is* Visited

But seriously, it all works out in the math that our reality could possibly be perception only, kinda neat..

JoeUser already has plans to be integrated into Stardock Central.    And if you haven't noticed already, last nights build of Stardock Central has the WinCustomize Browser integrated into to.  Check it out!

mr T-Man ! yeppers it's really nice being intergrated into SDC also !

JoeUser is coming along great too, though it was a bit slow down here yesterday. I think Florida is still getting hammered on the net right now, sigh.
