M1 Mac support in the future

Will galatic civil action 4 offer?

i was considering the purchase of one of the new Apple silicon macs in the future.  I’m hoping that stardock will make a galCiv 4 compatible version, since galCiv 3 has been far my favorite game to play.  Am I hoping in vain?

Can't say at this stage.

The short version is that we probably can't right now.   And I am typing this to you on my MacBook Air M1 which is the greatest laptop I have ever owned.  By far.  And I was an original ThinkPad owner.

Here are the challenges:

  1. M1 is an ARM based architecture.  This is a problem because we actually use some low Intel based calls (MME stuff).  We can address this but not soon.
  2. We haven't ever done anything with Metal before.  It's probably not a huge undertaking but it would take effort.

That said, I can say that we very, very much want to support it because we think the new Apple silicon is going to take a lot of market share.  But it probably won't happen in the GalCiv series.

Is there an update on this question atm?  I just bought a new MacBook, I don't game that much...  But then I got publicity about the new Galactic Civilizations IV: Supernova.  And I'd love to try it, as I've played Gal Civ III for years.
