Demigod stuttering and lag

So I've played this game on and off for several years now and never had a framerate issue with it ever. I have a 9600k and a 2080, so specs are not an issue. Nvidia drivers are up to date. For some reason the game is stuttering beyond belief to the point where it's unplayable. I own it on Steam.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Does your system also have an integrated graphics card? Because the game might be running on it, instead of the dedicated on. You can force a game to use the dedicated graphics card by going to Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings, then find the program. Or start Nvidia Control Panel and there set like this

If that's not the issue, try going to the game's exe file and in the Compatibility tab in Properties turn off fullscreen optimization, running the game in compatibility mode a different Windows version or as Administrator might also be worth a shot.

Thank you for your patience and patronage.

So I set it to use the 2080 in Windows' settings, although it was the only option. I then went to the Nvidia control panel and chose the executable. The second setting which says "Select the preferred graphics processor for this program" isn't there. "Specify the settings for the program" is number 2, not number 3 like you have. I believe the 9600k does have an integrated chip, but considering these aren't even options to select it to, I don't think that's the issue.

I then disabled fullscreen optimization, ran the game in windows 7, and ran it as an administrator. None of this solved the issue.

I'm also getting a flickering mouse cursor in the game. I don't know if that's related to it or not.

Thanks for the help. If you have any other ideas, I'll definitely give them a shot. I feel like I've tried pretty much everything. I can record video if necessary.

Go to the folder Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod and delete or rename the file Game.prefs. Maybe it's a setting that is causing this, if that doesn't work try modifying the graphics settings in-game.

There are new Nvidia drivers out this morning. Could you try updating them and seeing if there is any difference?

We have heard some reports of issues with the last set of drivers for another game, and would like to see if this helps.

Thank you. :)

The new Nvidia drivers definitely improved performance. I have no idea what they changed, but the fact there were two patches essentially back to back means they fixed something.

Another issue I have is not being able to pan the camera. Usually I was able to use spacebar or hold mousewheel and adjust the tilt of the camera. The moment I hit either of those buttons I immediately crash to desktop. This persists after the Nvidia patch as well.

Thank you very much for your prompt replies. I was halfway expecting this to get no attention considering the fact that the game isn't really that popular anymore.

So apparently I was premature in thinking that the problem was fixed. It's not. As the game continues, it gets worse and worse, and it's much worse when you have a full 5v5. I've set the graphics to low on everything, no AA or Vsync. I don't know what could have caused this, but it's really irritating not being able to properly run a game from 2009 with a 2080 and a 9600k.

I am having the exact same issue. Game runs just horribly. Constant stuttering and lag. I've tried the above fixes and still no luck.

I figured out the culprit. If you let your curser stay still, the game runs brilliantly. If you start moving your cursor around the screen, the game stutters like crazy until you stop moving it. The cursor icon flashes when you move it, almost like it's trying to find or read a different window behind the Demigod client, even though there isn't anything there. Very curious, but at least I know what's causing it now.

Same issue here.
I just bought the code online and installed on Steam.
Was trying to play as i quite like this game back in my high school time.

The cursor is flicking and it makes all the elements in game lagging.
If I stop moving the mouse, all the things run relatively smooth.
I guess there is codes making the mouse movement and the other calculations in a single channel with delay time...?
I don't remember I got such a problem back in around 2010.

Btw, my computer is running with:
AMD 5900X
EVGA FTW Ultra 3080
3600 MHz 64GB RAM
I don't think there is a computation / display bottleneck on the hardware, but on the underlying codes on priority / calculation sequence, or just as simple as the mouse control driver crashing with part of the game control...?

Exact same issue with the mouse here.

Sys Specs.

i9 9900ks

64GB corsiar dominator ddr4 3000mhz

ASUS ROG 1080ti strix

ASUS Xonar Xense

ASUS Strix z370 f gaming

Samsung EVO 970 plus 1TB (boot)

ADATA SX8200 series 2TB (data)

850 wt PSU

Windows 7 ultimate x64

I've downgraded my GPU drivers to 388.71, this resolves the issue with the mouse courser lag. I have noticed the same issue in another game, so its not 100% isolated to Demigod. I'm guessing some sort of memory leak, improperly updated DLL or something, because the lag will start happening around half way through a match, and become progressively worse to the point where you can freeze the game, if you continue using mouse input, same is true with the other game I've observed the issue in.

TLDR: Downgrade drivers. Problem solved.

I was having the cursor issue and was able to resolve it.  I went into Nvidia control panel and created a program profile under the manage 3D settings option.  For Demigod, I turned off Ambient Occlusion, Anisotropic filtering, Antialiasing mode and Texture filtering - Anasotropic sample optimization.  Probably could turn one or two of those back on, but it's working so didn't spend the time narrowing it down.
