Desktop freezes upon start

Hello,

I have Start8 v1.56 running on Windows 8.1 x64 and it presents an apparently random problem:

When I start the computer, the whole desktop freezes even before the icons start to show. After some trial and error, I found out that I can bypass this crash by double clicking on the desktop area. However, a number of auto launching apps no longer launch automatically when this happens. But then I have access again to the desktop and I restart the computer.
Usually, after about 10 restart attempts, it finally starts normally without crashing.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, how do you figure if Start8 is causing the issue?

My IT consultant told me so. I can't really say how he figured it out, but if it's important I can ask him.

One thing I tried to do was uninstall and reinstall Start8, but it didn't solve the problem.
When it was uninstalled, the problem didn't show. However, that's not a definite symptom, since there are occasions when the problem doesn't show anyway.

Try this, do the purge and reinstall Start8, this apply for both Start8 or Start10.

https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling . Just make sure to reboot after the purge, re-download your Start8, reinstall that, and reboot again. Retest and report back.

It apparently worked!

At first attempt, the problem came back after I reinstalled Start8. The DOS-like window created by the .bat file was showing many errors.
So I tried to run it twice and now it's apparently working.
I restarted it 3 three times and they were all successful. If the problem re-appears, I'll let you know.
