Covid Lockdowns

Covid Lockdowns

We've always lived as humans with the threats of illness and sickness, so its a bit of a surprise to see the establishment of police state lockdowns in the world such as in the UK, especially when there is no evidence that such extremist measures even work to save lives. Its also amusing to see the so called left, the people who are allegedly sensitive to rising fascism and authoritarianism, cowing in fear and jumping through hoops like obedient trained circus animals to be the first to demand everyone stand on marked lines and fasten masks on their faces, all at the time when most authorities have yet to earn any of our trust.

Can't credit masks/distancing given COVID spread despite them.

Yes you can.  You just need to look at places where it was [mostly] managed properly. [Australia/NZ]

The reduction in Flu transmissions is a combination of all the factors of Covid 'management'....you can't pick and choose.

England really screwed up with managing lock-downs over Xmas...and now are paying for it.

The US was always going to be in a bad way when they [mostly] considered any proper action a breach of their freedoms/rights....so 400 thousand dead.

Currently Victoria is hosting the AO with players from all over the planet coming here.  Some were bitching about the strict 14 day lockdown/quarantine ...but without it there would be no AO....and each and every one of them would have no appearance money...;)

Clarification.  Can't credit masks/distancing for the disappearance of influenza.  School closures... maybe.

Clarification. Can't presume only one part of the process was the effective bit.... not when ONLY one 'close contact' situation is a school...what about all the others that were prevented by 'social distancing' measures...ie every facet of everyday life?

Masks effect distancing by barrier.

This shouldn't be so hard to understand....;)

People need to listen to epidemiologists ...not Trump and his injecting of Draino ...;)

I'll let the snide pass, but you keep putting words in my mouth, Paul.  I did not use the word "only," or mention Trump or Draino.

I've also yet to hear of one epidemiologist claiming that masks &/or distancing stop flu better than COVID.

Before we had a killer disease spread effectively the same way as Flu we didn't have the incentive to 'make' people wear masks, distance, etc.  Even now there are idiots who think distancing does nothing.  It's the doing it badly/not enforcing it that destroys its efficacy.

What has resulted from ALL the measures used properly...is a massive reduction in the spread of Flu as well as the intended target.

The Covid deniers are claiming deaths from Covid [and Flu] currently are less than from Flu alone...pre-Covid - ergo Covid isolation etc is unnecessary [or some such].

Truth is.... only some of the Covid fatalities might have been dead from Flu anyway [so why bother]... yet many are not likely candidates for death-by-Flu ...and survivors of Covid have on-going issues, where-as most Flu survivors recover 100%.

England has passed the deathtoll from the Blitz ... the US has passed their deathtoll from WW2...

...and Australia....the place with all those 'draconian' restrictions on life and liberty is again totally free of anything 'in-the-wild'.

This pre-occupation with liberty at all costs ....the cost is too damn high...there isn't any 'liberty' to enjoy....when you are dead.

...and the worst of it is...when you are the person doing your utmost to isolate and survive...and some other bunch are out there disbelieving and spreading it regardless.

One's 'liberty' should not emperil others....like that prat in Queensland out on bail for driving offences.... crashes and kills a pregnant couple out walking their dog.  This liberty/bail process BS needs a close scrutiny. [there should be none].

Following OZ's example, we are in the process of losing our collective minds of late.  It's past time to end all forced COVID mitigation measures (which appear to have done little to control case rates, at enormous cost) and return to normal life.  The pandemic is over & has been for some time.  The currently circulating COVID strains are here to stay as an endemic illness, like influenza, with similar morbidity & mortality.  Enough already.

Short answer - No.

There you go again. It wasn't Draino it was bleach and he didn't say that.

Trump did not explicitly recommend ingesting a disinfectant like bleach. Nevertheless, his remarks led some companies and state agencies to issue warnings about ingesting disinfectants. The maker of Lysol said in a statement that "under no circumstance" should its products be used in the human body.

The Biden campaign did not respond to a request for comment about what evidence the former vice president relied on when he claimed the president suggested Americans drink bleach to combat the virus.

And what, exactly, are we supposed to take away from this information?
