When I returned to Canada the first thing I did was trade in my Camry for Toyota's hybrid auto the Prius. It claims 52(84) city/45(72) highway/48(77) combined mpg.(kpg.) Approximately 570 miles (917 km.) to a tank of gas. (and it costs me $28 Candian to fill it.)

My wife and I performed a little test just after we got it. We drove to Atlantic City for a weekend excusion. We drove straight through (appx 1000 km from where we live.) Did not have to stop and refil once. Just filled up in AC for the drive back.

There are ways to beat the advancing price of gas. My next step will be to go completely electric.

Oh, and I always have my legs.

Lady Akasha, you don't like Arizona?! I'll trade you. Try living in New Jersey in August for 1 week. You'd die with all the humidity. Here, 85 feels like 110 there. I was there last summer on vacation and it was 113 and it felt like a cool, 75 degree day because there's no humidity. Sure, the sun feels strong on the back of your neck, but it's not hot at all.I'd much rather live out there. I miss the West

That is a very kind gesture, and I would take you up on it, but I'm flying out to Oklahoma to meet my hubby, he's out there right now--goin' stir crazy without him , need a lil visit, and since I just got laid off (that's why I'm playing here mid day ) I figured might as well now before I get a new job.

Hubby would say 'yes' but this car is his baby, so not asking him,...not sure which baby ranks higher me or the car.

This is all very true Kona, you're right... but the bicycle part;
some cities that could work, but not in Phoenix. This is one of those states where you really can't get around w/out a car. Let's put it this way; it's not the usual to see people walking around. Unless it's downtown, old town scottsdale, the zoo, something happened- yeah people walk to 'see', and a few other things. And hot as hell.

I have been known to ride my bike 25+ miles to work one way. Not a big deal to me. I would rather spend 5000 dollars on a bicycle than get a new car but heh, not everyone is like me.

I have friends in the Phoenix area that told me about it, of course it was on the news too.

It costs me about 75$ CA to fill up the 90 litres gas tank on my Chevy Venture. Gas just passed from .72$ to .82$ in one week. The excuse is the blackout from last week. Yeah, like I believe that one second.

Motion: I calculated once. The price difference between a hibrid and a regular gasoline car is about 10,000$ CA. If I save 100$/month in gas (that's a big IF - I really don't drive that much, it would most likely save around 50$ in reality), it would take me more than 8 years to break even. Which is probably the time it would take me to buy a new car then.  Not really worth it yet, until the prices drop.

I can't help but wonder after reading your post paxx...and what I've heard about other cities...I can't help but think they're all coming up with some phoney balogney to jack up prices. Something is seeming VERY screwy!

Glad to hear it didn't hit you MrDigital. We have gas , but it's only regular in my area. One good thing about getting laid off...my tank is lasting a while
Ahhh ya gotta makes jokes about the sucky stuff.

Oh man. Gas prices around here ( WA state ) have shot up to around 1.80-2.10 USD, depending on what type and company gas is from.

I have a well, and it's only 3 years old.  It's how people who are not on city water get water

Gas jumped here in Michigan, too, for no explained reason.  It's up $.35+ from last week.  I filled up a week ago Tuesday at $1.49.  The same station is now at $1.88.  It's just so wrong.....
