Any Curtains tutorials? (Stuck on Minimise/Maximise/Close customisation)

As the title says are there any official or unofficial theme tutorials?

I'm trying to create a Big Sur theme but, working on the minimise/maximise/close icons, the prompt says they should be 78x78, I've created a 78x78 png but it's far too big?

I suspect your problem is that you've only made one state.  There are 4 states (Normal, Mouseover, Pressed, Disabled) stacked vertically, so you need a total image size of 78wide x 312tall containing the 4 states.

I managed to create a glyph from looking at another theme but I made it 16 x 64 for the 4 states.
Having another issue too, Windows 10 is enforcing it's highlighting behaviour on each button (i.e. red rectangle for the close button), is there an option somewhere to disable that?

I'm not sure this will work since you've used the "tiny glyph" approach, but try Reply 4 here:

https://forums.wincustomize.com/500800/page/1/#3783688

If that doesn't do it, you'll need to go into the advanced tab and specify the image for the "...BackgroundBlock"s similarly what you can see in the theme you're using as a map.

I really don't know what the advantage would be of using the "tiny glyph" approach that we're seeing in the themes, but I will say that using the Buttons tab with the 78x78 seems to be a lot simpler.

Sorted it thanks, I set all the active and inactive backgrounds to a 78x78 transparent png

Great.

For what it's worth it doesn't seem to need to be that big for a transparent background, I've used 10x40.  It could probably be smaller, and if you've used 78x78 I guess it doesn't even need to follow the 1x4 rule for a transparent or solid color.  Seems pretty flexible.

New problem, for some reason the button icons aren't staying to a uniform size, even though they're all using the same source image.

The missing maximise in the bottom window is the Curtains window because it doesn't have a maximise option, I elected to have that section of the glyph be transparent (missing).

Chromium Edge at the top is missing the icons, I presume, cos I'll have to go in and change something in it's settings.

Buttons are sized based on the titlebar size.  As you can see some windows have larger titlebars so with more space the buttons are larger.

Basically if the image is larger than the space then it gets shrunk to fit.  As a workaround you can use the DPI specific versions and then set the 100% one to a smaller size.  The OS default X at 100% dpi is 10x10 pixels as an example.

Are there specific sizes we should be using?
I've tried 10x40, 12x48, 16x64 and 32x128. Some of the maximise icon is being trimmed and I've tried changing the painting margins in the titlebar options too to no avail.

This is using the 100% DPI on each.

I did have a problem with Edge Chromium but, after closing it and applying the theme again, as advised elsewhere on the forum, it worked but the maximise icon has the same cutoff problem.

Hi.

I have noticed that some skins that use special buttons design (size: 16x64), when you click on “Minimize” button, window doesn’t minimize, you have to click a second time in order to do that.

Also, some skins that use special buttons design (size: 16x64), when you click on “Maximize” button, window maximizes but it loses that “Maximize” special button design and only shows default system button instead.

Regards.

Can you provide examples of that as changing the button image should have no impact on the functionality of minimize other than potentially changing the hotspot area depending on image size.

When maximized there is a different button image used (restore) and it sounds like those styles have not defined the other button.

Sure, take a look:

For Non Maximized Window:

For Maximized Windows:

I am not the developer of this Skin but I'd like to correct it, if I can.

Hello, I believe, it is because the author did not assign a gfx button for it.

Wow! I assigned a an Button Image at the "Restore Button part, as you said and problem solved, thank you very much. :congrat:

But I still don't know how to solve the issue when you have to click twice on “Minimize” button in order to get the window minimized, do you have any idea about it? :S

Ok. It happens just in some few kinds of Skins besides of this one, that use Buttons so different or stylized compared to the Buttons used by Windows 10.

Thanks Basj.

Just to verify, please use my "Sonix" https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/curtains/89/ and see if the issue are there. And is the issue on all application, such as explorer.exe, notepad etc?

I downloaded and applied your "Sonix" Skin, it has the same "Minimize Button" issue when you try to minimize the window, click twice to minimize window. This issue is not on all application, notepad, Microsoft Edge and explorer.exe they worked fine, just a single click, same behavior with all the Skins I've tried.

Today, I have finally tried every Local Skin that are installed by default when you install the Curtains application, and sadly, every Skin has the same "Minimize Button" issue.

If you haven't experienced this issue, please let me know what kind of computer are you using, or do you know if certain versions of Windows 10 aren't fully compatible with some Skins? or if there is some patch for it, or something else related.

Hi.

I did the purge as it says in the page: https://forums.stardock.com/500728/curtains-support-faq#CurtainsPurge and I followed the steps, I have the latest version of Curtains, checked from my account. Rebooted after purge, I reinstalled Curtains as Administrator, and reboot after that installation, I tested again and remains equal.

Applications that I have issue with are: "Mail" (from Windows), "Translator" (from Microsoft Store), "Diccionario" (from Microsoft Store), "Groove Music" (from Windows), "Audio Converter Any Format" (from Microsoft Store), "Diccionario Coreano-Español" (from Microsoft Store), "Settings" (from Windows), "Fotos" (from Windows).

I've tested Mail, Groove Music and Setting, and I have not see this issue.

Please try cleanboot as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/500728/curtains-support-faq#CurtainsServiceStart , this will help to see if there is something blocking Curtains to function properly.

Hi. I followed all your instructions and nothing different happened, but when you wrote "there is something blocking Curtains to function properly" I suddenly thought: "The Antivirus!". I gave Curtains permissions to its entire folder in the Antivirus, I rebooted my PC and it was solved!.

Thanks a lot for your assistance and support. :congrat:

Regards.

Awesome, would be nicer if you could share on what Antivirus you're using and how you do permissions setting for it to make it work. This will be very helpful for others whom might also have similar issue.

Mmmhhhhh, I'd like to do that, everything was working fine, but after my previous comment, I deleted the other Windows' Administrator Account that I created for Curtains testing, and after that, the issue came back with the Minimize Button!.
