GalCiv 3 Retribution: Game freezes after few seconds

Hi,

I bought Galactic Civilization 3 on Steam yesterday...but it freezes after a few seconds of playing the game. The freeze is not triggered by a specific action, but seems to happen after random period (< 1 min) of time. So far I have not been able to play the game for more than a few rounds.

After the freeze the game music stops playing...the mouse pointer is still visible and does move, but it is not possible to click on any menu (there is absolutely no response).

I have a fairly fresh (reinstalled it one month ago) Windows 10 (Version 1909, OS Build 18363.815) install, so all the drivers have been recently installed from scratch. The graphic card is a GeForce GTX 980 (Nvidia Driver Version 445.87).

It also tried to reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, but that didn't have any effect.

I have finally able to solve the problem...my external USB soundcard (komplete audio 6) caused the problem (altough I recently updated the driver). Switching the audio output device to another device fixed the freezing issues.

Glad you fixed it, these kind of problems can be problematic.

But also by accident you gave me flashback of similar issue back from windows 98 when I had to manually set PCI device interruptions (I don't actually know what they were, we called them that) Those were dark days...
