Galactic Civilizations III: Worlds in Crisis and Major v4.0 Update Announced
Experience new world crises, planet types and traits, plus visual and balance improvements with v4.0

GalCiv III - Worlds in Crisis DLC

Stardock announced the new Worlds in Crisis DLC and free v4.0 update for its massive space sandbox 4X strategy game, Galactic Civilizations® III today.

Worlds in Crisis introduces several new world events with ideological choices, new planet types, and over a dozen new planet features. Long-time players will find many new strategic options while players picking up the game for the very first time will also encounter exciting new experiences.

The free v4.0 update adds huge performance increases and makes vast visual improvements to the game’s planets, both on the surface and from orbit. A massive list of additional balance and AI improvements also accompany v4.0, which is already in opt-in. The current changelog is available here

In Worlds in Crisis, players may encounter worlds struggling with crises from planetary mutations, to raging pandemics, to murderers on the loose, and much more. Each crisis tells a planet’s story and the player’s decisions on how to handle them will determine how it resolves in the end.

There are also several new planet types to explore, offering new and exciting bonuses for those brave enough to colonize them. Players might encounter a sterile planet that isn’t meant for housing life, but is suited for the experiments of a mad scientist, or a beautiful and serene tranquil type world, perfect for retirement and tourism. New islands, continents, and landmasses provide many new options.

“Our community provided most of the feedback that shaped v4.0,” said Stardock CEO Brad Wardell. “Thanks to them, we were able to review and optimize everything in order to make things run faster. We also worked in some performance improvements while still making the game look better than ever.”

The Worlds in Crisis DLC is coming soon to Steam and Stardock for $4.99. Galactic Civilizations III is available on Steam or through Stardock for $39.99. To learn more, visit www.galciv3.com.

Will the new update and/or dlc see any changes to multiplayer. I do hope it works for multiplayer unlike mega events which doesn't, or at the very least work on making multiplayer more stable than before. These are my own two cents since I mainly play the game for multiplayer. I find it boring playing against only the AI unless I'm trying something out.

I'd like to also add that from my perspective diplomacy seems to be very stale in that there is not much to do outside of trading and even then its like pulling teeth to even get one deal passed unless you have high tech that is way  above their means. Heck trading planets/ships/starbases do not seem to add much weight to trading. Three of my planets was not even worth one...starbase and I am in ok standing with this faction. Back to diplomacy why not have what is already there have a greater value like open borders, a faction/country would not normally have open borders unless there is something to be gained. Maybe have it where instead of both sides opening borders to each it is only one--so that it has more value and strategic use. The faction who opened there border can even get a slight increase in influence due to they opening of their borders due to the increase of vulnerability to their territories. However in order to make this work the AI would have to view the influence zones of factions as no go zones, or better yet both sides are allowed to--as long as they keep their borders closed to attack and destroy any entering ships aside from diplomacy/trade ships as if they were viewed as pirates. This way the borders are able to be kept protected, however destroying a ship would naturally cause the faction's ship to become displeased or angered and if given enough time of their ships or vice versa being destroyed this could lead to war. Some factions much sooner than others. The type of ships destroyed could also a greater weight than others, for example a lone military ship discovered and destroyed may not have as much weight compared to a destroyed colony ship due to the colony ship containing billions of citizens.

I think that adding this would make the game more interesting diplomatically since now you could protect your borders from being over run but at the same time you have to be careful since angering your neighbors may not be the smartest thing to do. Maybe also adding a weight that increases the AI's chances of not sending any ships to any zone if the the ships it sends into said zone keeps on getting blown up. At the sametime the AI should get mightily pissed should the player enter their own territories making it harder to trade and other such things.

Becoming a founder was my best purchase ever.

Best purchase ever - agreed.

I completely agree! Never regretted it for a moment as it was totally worth it and supported a company that I like. (Can’t say THAT too often...)

I agree becoming a founder elite was a good move.

Emperor I would be ok with your ideas as long as you would have to catch my ships, and I had an option to fight before you could blow up my ships.

Already saving for becoming an elite for GCIV.

The company is on a viable footing now, so it probably will not need "founder members'.

Glad I helped out when they needed it. This game has been a godsend for me during this lock down.

I didn’t get in early enough to be a founder but I don’t mind continuous purchases as long as they keep updating and adding things. The game compared to launch is so radically different.
Also enjoying the increased spawn of necessary resources

I doubt this will be included but could you combine multiple traits in a future version?

Some are mutually exclusive, but I would like to see really important planetary traits and multiple variables like MOO1 or MOO2.  It makes the galaxy feel far more immersive.  Like high gravity + fertile + terran, or volcanic + low gravity + rich.

Traits have very little influence on planetary performance compared even to the random distribution of tiles.

And if racial abilities influenced colonization more that would be nice too.

I'd also like for mega events to work for multiplayer if possible. That dlc along with this crisis of worlds from what I read gives the galaxy more life to it. Without Mega events multiplayer feels kinda dead since there is not much going on in between the building up phase before things really start getting heated with wars and other things. As such I hope mega events and crisis of worlds would both work for multiplayer.

CoW I have no idea, I couldn't care less at this point. But for Mega Events, it won't. Period. If they wanted it to work in multiplayer they would've done it that way in the first place, and it would doubtless take some work to change now. They don't have any spare dev time at all, they can't even stop to fix 60 bugs brilliantly flooded onto this forum a couple months ago by one dedicated user, many of which would only take 20 minutes per bug to fix imo. And they can't even be bothered to do THAT after multiple years of asking. There's no way in heck they can possibly change anything like ME. Just from a dev/financial/priority/reality standpoint.

Then there's the original Frogboy statements on the issue at the time, where he ferociously defended his imo-ridiculous beliefs that Mega Events were way too imbalancing and destabilizing for multiplayer, so we can't have them even as an option (I guess to save players from themselves? In which case... wow).

Then add on top of that, that they have repeatedly insisted, going back many years, that multiplayer accounts for some miniscule portion of their playerbase (1% or something, I don't remember), and as such they don't care about MP in any way shape or form in the slightest anyway, other than maybe once in a while improving some game-breaking desync or crash issues. But if it's not at that game-breaking level, seriousness-wise, good luck with anything MP-related with these devs. Sigh. All I ever wanted personally was the ability to select random AI races in a multiplayer lobby, like you've always been able to do in single player. Which would take a competent programmer, again, like, 20 minutes to add. And I wasn't the only one asking. Response? After one promising reply over 2 years ago, crickets. I've completely given up with these ppl. But that's just me. If the mountain of minor-to-moderate-severity bugs in the game doesn't ruin it for most players, I guess they're taking the right approach, never fixing more than they absolutely have to and always pressing on to new sellable content as quickly as possible.

So excited about this ... Galciv3 has been calling me to load it up again and this will definitely get me back into it again 😉

I have a game that has locked up 2 times now. It did it yesterday so today I just loaded the last save and started playing again. A little while later it locked up again. You have to go into the task manager to kill the game. Not sure where I can load the save game for the developers to have a look. I don't have DropBox, Google Drive, One Drive. I'll check if steam has something available.

Yup, hang #3 turn 129, last time turn 128. What is weird is early on in the game I captured the space monster, is has been my number one invasion ship. Nothing can compete with it especially now with numerous battle experience. What I notice is that the game hangs when I select the space monster and give it new move orders. Probably not related but just throwing that out there. All three time the game hangs I was moving the space monster.

I have managed to progress the game passed the point where it was freezing. I just waited for the space monster to report it was idle and then gave it move orders. When getting it to freeze I was going around checking ships at the end of my turn. Each time I selected the space monster which had no moves left at the end of my turns and gave it new orders it would freeze the game.

Once I started letting the space monster telll me when it was idle before giving it move orders I was able to continue playing the game without freezing.

How to post the saved game to stardock?

Put the saved game file on a service like Dropbox or OneDrive and then post a link to it here.
