I need some help please.

I haven't played galciv 3 in several years but now that I have appropriately powerful PC again that's kinda up to date + decent amount of free time again, only catch is that I have completely forgotten how to play this game.

There seems to have been quite significant changes from the last I've played.

I notice there is now a "City" improvement that increases the population cap for a planet.

And how do I get to building stuff really quickly? 18 turns for a basic factory is too slow. Rush buying is only a temporary measure.

How much does asteroids add to my planets if I set up a mining factory in its radius?

And is it fine if starbase's radius overlaps because I get spots where I want to establish a mining starbase and influence starbase together.

And I noticed that building new additions to starbases is now alot less annoying than before, just simply click and buy. XD

Is it important to build cities on every planet?

Should I be even concerned about a city's level? Because it seems like it gives only 3 population cap increase no matter what level it is.

I do stuff like when I establish a new colony i start rush buying like four basic factories on it but it doesn't even increase production at all even when they're all adjacent to each other and it still builds stuff too slowly.

How do i generate alot of science? How do i generate alot of population very quickly?

At very least, I still remember how to fight my battles in galciv3, the invading space monsters got spanked by my tiny puny ships.

So much stuff I forgot and I only remember the flashiest part of galciv3, its space battles xD

Please help me get started up. Thank you.

If you examine your planets you'll see a figure called Raw Production. Each unit of raw production yields +1 social production, +1 military (shipyard) production, +1 research, and +1 income. So it's very important.  Each asteroid base adds +1 raw production to the nearest planet, scaled down by distance. So they can be very helpful.

Also each unit of population is +1 raw production, if you can keep them happy.

Is it important to build cities on every planet?

Yes, as I noted it increases raw production. But you might have to build morale improvements to keep them happy, since you get penalized for poor morale.

And is it fine if starbase's radius overlaps because I get spots where I want to establish a mining starbase and influence starbase together.

Yes, there's a minimum distance they have to be apart, but they can overlap quite a bit. And you can build multiple economic starbases around the same planet to boost the effects.

I do stuff like when I establish a new colony i start rush buying like four basic factories on it but it doesn't even increase production at all even when they're all adjacent to each other and it still builds stuff too slowly.

Factories apply a percentage multiplier to the planet's production. At low levels it's more important to build up the raw production through asteroids and population.

Difficult to do. IIRC there's a racial trait that increases population growth, so you could choose a civ with that trait or make your own custom civ.  There are techs you can research that increase the population growth rate.  And (again, IIRC) a happy population grows faster.

Of course if you're playing as a synthetic race like the Yor, you have to build your citizens, and that's a real challenge early game.  You can really pump them out fast late game, but you have to survive to that point first.

hmm I see i see. Does it must be a mining starbase to gain +1 raw production from each asteroid? Or is any starbase fine?

I read this but they doesn't really clarify the asteroid stuff and what the minimum range is now set to.

https://galciv3.gamepedia.com/Strategic_resource

https://forums.galciv3.com/457573/starbases-and-game-balance

And the third link has the image showing the radius overlap supposedly but the picture is broken and no longer works.

Seems like alot of really important knowledge is missing?

By mining base I assume it means the starbase must be dedicated to mining?

Okay i'll just deal with it about the pop. And wait patiently for them to grow.

You don't need a mining starbase for the asteroids.  Once they are inside your zone of influence, just click on them and select to build a mining base.  I think it takes three turns.  By default they "ship resources" (i.e. add to raw production) to the nearest planet, but there is an option to redirect them to whatever planet you want.

You might want to check out this wiki, https://wiki.galciv.com/

Although incomplete, it does have some good tips in the "Getting started" section.

Another strong tip is no matter who you will “Be” you start good in the ideology tree until you unlock the colonies start with 2 extra population it is a damn must imo. Allows you to send your ships only 1/3rd full keeping your population working and growing at home. Of course then they new worlds will have morale problems and not be growing but all that free population is just to powerful to pass up. For carbon, definitely for synthetic, and I’ll assume aquatic and silicone based life. I’m normally play synthetic so I can ignore morale and just set my tax rate to 100%

Uhh that awkward moment where I click on the asteroids for the first time after 116 hours played. Now I can see that build mining base button. Currently my homeplanet has 52 raw production and not a single asteroid is being worked on. Its gonna implode.

Thank you XD I'll check wiki next.

Edit: After 3 turns my production after i dumped 10k credits which wasn't enough for every asteroid i have in my empire was more than enough to push me from third place into 1st place for production. Homeplanet had 107 production. Increased from 52 to 107. I'm going to have to find out about this redirect production into specific planets so they can manufacture best ships i can build asap.

Way to go, you helped me from being dead last into top lol in terms of how to build planets. At least when i'm up against normal ai.

Ah yes now that i look into the benevolent tree, that's the abundant I remember that one now after you pointed that out XD

Judging from your questions you haven't played this game since 2.0. Ok since then the manual has been rewritten for 3.0. That is probably a good read. The population cap can't be above the class. The game starts with hubs. Those are better than factories a +1 is better than a percent. Remember adjancencies are important. It is important to know what improvement type you have. Put like buildings together when you can. You can get bonuses to growth from improvements you build like the colonial hospital. Doesn't matter if your synthetic. From your research. Everything else sounds good. Manufacturing is less. Population grows slower. Factories affect manufacturing not production.

Population won’t grow if you are synthetic you have to build it. And depending on map generation you can be straight up fucked if there isn’t enough durantium. Remember to trade for it with the AI they will easily trade away about 10% of their total stockpile of a resource for pennies on the dollar.
