Scanning Causes Massive Sync with OneDrive

I am having two issues with SpaceMonger.  One has to do with a forced sync and the other is connecting my OneDrive Account to SpaceMonger.

  1. I sync many of my laptop folders to OneDrive.  After Sync, to save space, I mark most files as Cloud only, until I need them.  The issue is that when SpaceMonger does a scan of my drive it will actually force OneDrive to pull down ALL of my content that I have as cloud-only.  It should NEVER do this.  It should be smart enough to realize the offline state of the document and either just pull the on-disk metrics or ask OneDrive for the file metrics without pulling down the file. Worst case scenario, just skip it.  I have well over 100GB of content that is stored in OneDrive and I do not want it pulled down for a scan.
  2. The second issue I have is when attempting to connect SpaceMonger to my OneDrive Account.  I successfully login and grant permissions but I receive an error. The error is "Standard Mouse Pointer Randomly Changes, Error code: 410".  Not sure what this means or why I am getting it.

I am unable to do a complete drive scan due to these issues.  Any advise? Has anyone else come across these issues?

NOTE:  I have 2FA enabled on my OneDrive account.

Thanks.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Regrettably, both issues appear to be moot as SpaceMonger no longer is able to (should not be able to) connect to OneDrive since the API was changed. That you are able to is a current mystery to me - Ill have to test it to see if MS has changed something...

Edit: Yeah, it still fails:

This is about more than the connection failing.  It is also about the scan causing OneDrive to download all of my cloud content.  It shouldn't do that, makes the tools useless if it cannot recognize cloud-only files.

While its been a while since we have been able to test SM and OneDrive, I dont believe SM would do anything like that.  It - itself - would not perform a fetch of anything to be worked on locally... Again, I just cant test it currently.

Are you certain it is OneDrive itself that is doing the sync?

Just SM trying to access the file will automatically cause a download by OneDrive.  It assumes you need the file and downloads it for you.  SM needs to recognize offline storage of files and skip them or find some way to gather metrics that don't cause OneDrive to download the file.

Certainly that is configurable in OneDrive, to not have it make that 'assumption', yes?

In OneDrive it is called Files-on-Demand.  This feature in OneDrive is essential for working with my files without having to manually download them before I need them.  Your tool should take this into account.  I have uninstalled SM to prevent this from happening.  When you fix this issue I will consider reinstalling it.

If now SM is not/should not be able to connect with OneDrive, should that tab not simply be removed completely? It is very confusing to have functionality that indicates to be available and functioning but is not at all. Especially when it is a known gap.

Thx,
Thomas
