After upgrading Groupy Tiles no longer starts

Guessing it's crashing shortly after startup

Not very useful if it won't start.  All I know is that I just got an update notice for Groupy and ran it, then rebooted.  Now TIles doesn't seem to work at all.

3 Tiles version.

OK, work with me here - I told you TILES DOESN'T START.  How am I to get to an empty are in the title bar of a non-running application?  And before you ask, I tried it in the Tiles configuration app and got nothing.   Again, trying to figure out the value of an app that just stops working.

I'm sorry, yup I guess you can't get it if you can't start it. I am guessing you get it from your account. There it should list out which version you are downloading and installing. https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

And while you at it.

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,

That is not from your product page. Please use this link to get to your product page : https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

BTW, have you tried the suggested steps mentioned above?

And ran both commands; first did find errors, second said restore was successful.  Still no Tiles when I start it.

When I went to the account page, it said that my Object Desktop subscription had expired.  Couple things, wasn't aware I was buying a subscription - which I frickin' hate, but OK, renewed it.  Here's what I get AND TILES IS STILL NOT STARTING

Hello,

If the installation is done without any error popup. Can you start Tiles manually and check if it set to startup as windows start on Task manager and Tiles Config windows?

Thank you,

Tiles will not start.  It does NOT show up in the Task Manager anywhere.  And Tiles is set to start automatically in the Tiles configuration application.  I've tried running it directly from the Windows start screen and as an Administrator.  NOTHING SHOWS UP.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

All I know is that I just got an update notice for Groupy and ran it, then rebooted.  Now TIles doesn't seem to work at all.

I am not able to reproduce your issue; tiles starts with Groupy installed.  Since you seem to think the update to Groupy was related, if you uninstall Groupy, reboot, does Tiles start then?

No, just uninstalled Groupy, including the mandated reboot, and no Tiles.  I'm kinda shocked there's no logging here to diagnose the issue.  As is, Tiles is completely useless to me.

Tiles will not start.  It does NOT show up in the Task Manager anywhere.

Hi rjlemaster,

Can you re-verify that Tiles is not running in TaskManager.  Under Processes, you would see "Stardock Tiles",  listed under the Background Processes categories.  Or under the Details tab, you should see tiles64.exe or tiles32.exe.

I ask this, because judging from the Object Desktop you provided eariler, suggests that tiles64.exe is running and therefore displays the "Configure" action by default.

So, I'm wondering if Tiles is actually running but is somehow hidden or placed off screen.    And since this is more of a Tiles issue than a Groupy issue, have you tried re-installing Tiles?

I have uninstalled / reinstalled Tiles at least once.  I just pulled up Task Manager details and started Tiles.  It appears momentarily then disappears almost immediately.  It is clearly stopping, and I'm shocked that you have no ability to diagnose the problem.

So, nothing?  You guys have absolutely nothing to say about this?  Can I get a refund.  Surprising as hell that in the year 2020, you apparently have zero diagnostic ability with your software.  First and last Stardock purchase I'll be making

If you do a clean boot of Windows:

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

And have Tiles enabled, then does it run?

Sean Drohan

Sean did asked you to do the Cleanboot, have you done it? That will help to see if something is blocking Tiles.
