SkinStudio LAGGING

It never used to.

Just wondering if anyone noticed this Phenomenon... o_O

With every new Iteration/update of Sks it takes longer and longer for the Pc to start responding again after inserting a value for a part (after inserting the value for some parts the lagging is worse than others)

-Guess Neil would be the best to explain this as he created the software, but... If you have any input -appreciated. :sun:

EDIT: This happens on both mine and Kittys Pc so it's not the hardware.

...I will be bumping this

I haven't noticed it in general.  I have always noticed it occasionally on some skins every once in awhile, I've no idea why, but what I've see is is very much skin-specific.  If the skin does it, it does it, if it doesn't, it doesn't.

You might try opening up somebody else's skin to see if it works any better.  There might some condition you guys are carrying around in your skins (I'm guessing you don't start from scratch every time).

I start my skins from scratch, and getting the same issue....its extremely fustrating.

Hmm, I was just keying/tabbing through some fields here and it does seem to be a little bit laggy.  Not as bad as the few problem skins I was talking about (a couple of those were ridiculous), but it does seem to have picked up a little lag/sputter.

Somebody may want to know - I'm on Win10.

As you're actually skinning the parts, putting in more info as you go along & updating every now and then it gets worse. AFTER the info is put in the cursor actually disappears for 5-10 seconds. It might not sound much, but when this happens all the time it gets FRUSTRATING...MANY parts to alter you know ;)

-Again, This only started to happen around the time Sks was getting updated some time after Win 8, but not the first few updates as I remember.

Hi Andy,|-)

We all have to admit that Skinstudio is not the best software we could have, but it has helped us do so many skins anyway.
However, the case you mentioned has happened to me only once some years ago and I corrected it with re-installation of SkinStudio or by putting a clean copy of my Windows 10 hard Disk C and re-installing SkinStudio, if I remember well.

Have in mind that sometimes I do over 50 skin corrections and applications per hour! Not in the past, but this week for example with SkinStudio version 10.1 and all work beautifully and fast.
What version of Skistudio do you use?

Same as you 10.1... And Vampothikas Pc is new meaning 10.1 was recently installed on hers, but also experience the same issue, so.... Can't be what you're suggesting. :\   STRANGE

I understand Andy, but how you explain that SkinStudio works fine in my computer? :\

Maybe a common third party software (AntiVirus or something else) causes the issue in your computers..

Yeah, could be... but... then she must have the same installed... Hmmm

Yes, that is why I said a "common third party software" to both computers...

Any way, I just wanted to help, good luck!:)

How is everyone? I hope you all do fine...been a while since my last visit.
This may be not related but the latest update of my AV caused some problems with other programs...
Some of them show increased memory usage in Taskmanager, saw this post and thought you guys might face the same issue with skinstudio.
Open Taskmanager and take a look at the processes tab and see if Skinstudio is eating up an abnormal amount of RAM if so whitelist the application in your AV to resolve the issue.
This strangely worked for me for other older apps...
Might be not the case for you but worth a try, otherwise try and run it as Admin... to see if that changes anything.

If your physical memory is full or the capacity close to be fully utilized, the running threads that need memory to do operations may write to your physical hard disk instead if the RAM isnt available, you can observe this if you open Taskmanager --> performance --> recourcemonitor -->then RAM
on the right side there should be a live graph or several, whenevery this shows a "hard error"  a thread has requested data (pages) from RAM that has already been paged out to HDD or SSD and now has to be loaded back into RAM.
if this happens often this is an idication that you need more RAM.

Some programs, especially older ones, may get unstable and "laggy" if you have an unusual high number of fonts installed.

Lol, they need to be Installed or they won't show up in Photoshop for instance... Like when creating a Logo you have to be able to scroll through fonts to see what suits... ;)

.... but you can add a directory that goes to a thumb when you plug it in.  Then you would have all those fonts. It makes sense to me that this is possible.  So maybe it isn't possible. :sun:

Unfortunately not Barb, they have to be installed on the PC's OS to show up in Photoshop (and any other software using them) Otherwise they're just "Files" and that´s not how it works ;)

Too bad... and btw.. I read flies... instead of files... I think I need new glasses or a brain!  lol!  Well, I'm sure you will make it work!!B)

Not really.  Extensis Suitcase Fusion or FontExplorer X  does the magic if you splurged.

In my OS I have installed 683 fonts, I don't think that they cause any issue...

I could have been more specific when writing "an unusual high number of fonts" and was thinking more like 1000+. I have around 500 installed but I bet neone6 and others have a lot more.
