Game crashes at the first dialogue

Hello everyone,

I just bought the game and I cant' start a new game. Everytime I start a new game, the first video plays, I enter my name, choose the difficulty, play the second video and then it crashes. The line of dialogue appears, the music plays, but that's all. The screen is stucked on this:

I have followed the steps of this topic, but problem remains.

https://forums.starcontrol.com/491043/star-control-origins-support-faq#pagefile

I have a pagefile.sys, bigger than recommended. I verified files of the game. I tried to start as admin both Steam and game. I reinstalled VCRedist and DirectX. I run as 1366x768 and set settings at the lowest. Activated / deactivated VSync. Tried with fullscreen or not. Drivers were already up-to-date. Etc.

Here is my system:

MINIMUM

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system > OK
  • OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 10 64-bit > Windows 10 64-bits
  • Processor: Dual Core Intel or AMD processor > i5-8250U
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM > 8 GB
  • Graphics: Intel Integrated 520 or equivalent > Intel® UHD Graphics 620
  • DirectX: Version 11 > Direct X11 Supported
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection > OK
  • Storage: 26 GB available space > OK
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card > No idea

I have the game and all the DLC via Steam.

Thank you very much for your help. And remain of course available for any additionnal detail.

Hello,

I just found two game files in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins\Game

Their names:

Error_Thread03.txt

Error_Thread07.txt

Both contain the following text:

Error:
D:\StarControl_BM\Main\Apps\StarControl\Source\Astronomy\AvatarShip.cpp Line: 91
Could not find ship design: Norast_Warship_Playable

My D: harddrive is the hard drive for the Windows restoration. I have nothing inside.

Hope it could help to figure out.

Sorry that you are having trouble.  Can you share the contents of your starcontrol "my games" folder?  It would located in your documents folder, similar to this:
 C:\Users\bob\Documents\My Games\Star Control

Thanks for your answer. It's getting worse and worse ^^".

I just didn't do anything (about game files or parameters) since I looked to these crash reports. But when trying yesterday, the game just refused to start. I click on Play in Steam, the application starts, but it's just an infinite black screen (I've waited 10 minutes to be sure...).

So, I thought I did something wrong and decided to start again on a fresh start.

I followed instructions to completely remove the game of the computer. I reinstalled it. Verified game files. Still the same issue.

I so changed the settings for the lowest configuration. Chose the Administrator start of the game exe directly.

Proceed to a clean boot from a fresh account admin user as explained in the instructions. Still the same issue. Now, just nothing works xD.

In My Games, I have:

Designs, Fleets, Saves, Universes folders, all empty.

I have the same issue. Have seen other threads with the same issue. Not a single one I found has a solution from tech support. Please advise.

For myself, I start a game, go through the opening dialogue.  I leave to head to Triton.  Once I get there, the game stops, zooms out, and just does a spinning overview of the solar system.  I have no control.  I tried going to another planet instead, same deal.  As soon as I get there, the ship stops, the screen zooms out and I can do nothing.  Pretty exciting I can't get 3 minutes into the game without a glitch.

Sorry that you're having trouble.  We are unable to reproduce the problem here internally but we are working on a patch that may help.  We'll let you know when its ready for testing.

Still can't play more than 1 minute of the game.  I get to Triton, the view zooms out and keeps spinning though Sol.  I lose all control other than being able to quit the game.  Fantastic.

Did they release their update already? I didn't see it in the Steam news.

I have the same issue. Bought the game from GOG, couldn't play it at all. Freezes on the first Dialog (app not responding)- UI shown, animation and dialog windows are black.

Specs:
Windows 10 Pro 1909

i7-6700/32GB RAM + I use the integrated Intel Graphics HD530 (don't have external video) with the latest intel driver (tried an older one too, no difference)

Tried all kind of settings. I think I meet the minimum requirements.

This issue was somehow resolved with the latest update of Intel display drivers and the game (1.43). Now i the game works and the initial dialog passed sucessfuly

Has anyone solved this issue?

I have a Intel Core i7 with 8 gig of memory and 200 gig drive running Intel HD520 graphics.

I am having the same issue ( games locks up at “The last of the crew and supplies should be coming over to you shortly, captain.” screen) and have not been able to play this game at all.

SO far a Hugh waste of my money.

Is this a solvable issue?
