Unhandled exception

I setup the game on my new computer and played for an hour or so, but the next day I got an error saying unhandled exception and it immediately shut down. It is a new windows 10 laptop with plenty of hardware. suggestions?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I put your post in the DemiGod section.

Go to:

\Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod

And delete the game.prefs and try again.

Thanks for the response Sean. I deleted the file and tried opening again, however it did the same thing. Anything else I should try?

What changed on the PC if anything?  Did you install a new driver, apps, change a Windows setting?

no, it is a brand new PC out of the box, so some system things may have updated. I tried going back to a previous restore point but that didn't help either. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. I know this is a pretty old game (but one of my favs) so I also tried messing around with compatibility settings and none of them seemed to work. I put all those back to the original settings as well when they yielded no results.

You may try re-installing the DXSetup.exe from:

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010

and vcredist_x64.exe from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2012

I didn't get the app through steam. I downloaded the file from my previously purchased games through the stardock website. I tried doing an update to the directX after it didn't work, but that didn't fix it.

Uninstall what you have for the game and install the Steam version I added to your account:

I tried it and installed everything and still got the same error when using the Steam version. Here is the exception if it helps:

That would make me think it is a video driver issue...  Perhaps updating it would be prudent.

now that I'm using the steam version. I tried going back to those file locations you indicated in a previous message. I did not have a folder named "Steamworks Shared" or anything close. Suggestions?

Sean, Thanks for your help. It ended up working after some updating of the graphics utilities. I was just able to complete an entire game, so for now, it looks like it is fixed. Thanks for sticking with me and the solid advice. ~Bryan

I think I am running into the same problem as OP I purchased Demigod, and Sins of the Solar Empire, on disc and back when Impulse was around I decided to reinstall I am not sure what is cuasing the problem I am getting the same error code as OP but I know my video drivers are up to date. This PC was Win 7 and upgraded to Win 10 not sure how much impact that will have. I haven't tried Sins yet it is next.
