In February of '99 I was following a newsgroup about cable modems and someone had posted a screenshot of their system with the BlueOS skin running. They didn't offer any explanation of how they did it but after a bit of searching I found Windowblinds. A month later I made my first skin. I'm still hopelessly addicted, can't stand working on a machine without WB loaded...

Looked for an alternative to eFx some years ago, too

I saw WindowBlinds 2 I think mentioned long ago in some computer forum. But I was wary of trying it. Later I saw WebBlinds mentioned on the same computer forum and I looked into it. Tried the shareware and it worked fine. Whoo hoo! But of course, just having IE skinned wasn't enough. So when WindowBlinds 3 came out, I tried it and thought it was the greatest thing to hit my old W98 box. Wow. So I bought it and eventually upgraded to ODNT. Now I'm running XP with a new PC and WindowBlinds was one of the first apps I installed on it.

After EFX, I used to have a program called 'Window Pictures', a true nightmare!!! Anyone remember it?

I saw a small screenshot of some skins and a tiny little article in PC World mag (summer 2001). They provided a link to windowblinds.net. I thought about it for six months...then finally bought WB, without even trying it first. When WB4 was released, I purchased OD. Now, if only I can figure out this Skin Studio, and make a skin myself!

I heard about it from Chris Pirillo on Call For Help at TechTV. He kept raving about it, but I didn't care, (no, I didn't) until he showed a screenshot! I was a goner...........

Armed with LiteSTEP as a shell replacement, I went in search of anything/everything that could enhance my need to escape the 'defaults' of Windows.....and there was eFX....and a very early WindowBlinds.....I think even eFX was still under development then...before it stagnated...

I got turned on by my brother-in-law.....al he said was "you need to go to this site...it's got great wallpapers and even better skins!!"

Searching for windows themes, etc. on the net. I couldn't stand how XP looked. I think someone said 'Fisher Price' once in describing how XP looks. Yep!
Started using the trial version, then bought the full version; never looked back.

Back when I got a cracked version of WB, I was using Windows ME. It was summer of 2001 before XP ever came out. I got it so I could make ME look more like the XP Betas I kept reading about. Later I felt bad about getting the cracked version so I bought it from Stardock's site. Later I upgraded to OD so I could have Object Bar to simulate the XP start bar and to play around with the other OD components too. After I got XP, I kept on using OD to enhance my XP experience and to have more variety than the same old Luna skins.

I have been using OD since the OS/2 days on and off. Ive been a StarDock fan for a long time.

I used to go into the Display section on Control Panel and change every little thing piece by piece until I got what I wanted. After doing that for a year or so, I typed in "downloads" and this was one of them, downloaded it and the rest is history. I absolutely love OD, WBs, Icon Packager, the whole shee-bang. I can't imagine being on the computer and not having OD to keep me from absolutely going bonkers. I work on the computer for a living (medical transcription) and after 30 years of typing about gallbladders, hernias and the rest of the body parts, this is what keeps my sanity. I probably change my desktop 3 to 4 times a week and love every minute of it.
