Phase Out web browser...

Is this a real browser or is this just another skin over for Internet Explorer like NeoPlanet for example?

It uses the Explorer engine.

Software:
• Internet Explorer 5.5 or more recent
• Latest Macromedia Flash™ plug-in
• Windows 98 or Windows XP/2000 or more recent

Hardware at least:
• 1024x768 monitor resolution
• 64MB ram
• Pentium™2 400Mhz (I didn't know the PII's were ever that fast )
• Internet connection

Lets see, it's a flash front end for a crap browser and sucks down resources like you wouldn't believe.

On the other hand, I'm using the MozillaFirebird browser, with about 52 tabs open, it's fast as heck, fully skinnable, and is only using 32Mb of RAM.

pretty radical ifn ya was ta ast me. almost too flashy. will have to ease into this one. dload links for skins don't seem to be working however. hmmmmmm

Weird, I installed it, it shows up as running in my taskbar, but it does not actually show up on the screen.

I'm with Aqua. I've been using Firebird since 0.1 and I haven't gone back to IE since.

There's just the 'issue' with the skin 'they' created for it.....which, needless to say, treetog is not particularly happy about.

I'm going to go to the News story thread. I saw 63 responces, so somebody must have made some interesting comments...

I like Netscape personally... even though Mozilla is the same thing I believe.

And Mozilla is skinnable.

Babya disxcobverer is smaller based on ie.

Any "browser" that depends on IE is not a real browser. I like Mozilla as my IE alternative. Stay clear of Babya. Teddy!

I just like the tabs and the ease of favorites use on Netscape( and I assume Mozilla). It is ver helpful especially when exporting the favorites (turns them into hyper-links on a web page format.)

There was some other stuff I liked too but I had to uninstall it because my sisters computer could not take the RAM usage (only 64 RAM on it).

I just really liked the idea of Phase Out. It almost seemed like a freely skinnable browser where you can put stuff and buttons where you wanted. Too bad about the rip stuff, and the fact that when you minimize the whole browser images get smaller instead of reseting the boder only.

The concept is excellent. The way it all works is superb. I absolutely love it. I hope they manage to get the whole ripping thing sorted out because it would be a real shame if this doesn't get the kudos it so richly deserves because it uses a ripped skin.

Doomgaze...it was an internal decision, particularly once the company openly admitted 'stealing' treetog's design.

It was a rhetorical question.

I took the news link down. They seem to have the attitude that it was okay to steal Treetog's skin concept and use it without permission. So I cannot recommend this program or the company that makes it.

I can imagine treetog being pretty pissed about this news item in the first place.

I agree. I thought it was a great idea and if they could fix a few problems. Even the RAM usage would be tolerable.

I have a question though:
What did youy send them Jafo? (or treetog, Frogboy) It would seem logical to me that they would not want to alienate the very community that they need to skin the program, provide support and praises.

Did you guys point out how (if they plan on making money) that this could effect their profit? If they are doing it for free, then did you point out how they are hurting thier own populatity from the start of thier program and those who wish to skin it and are really good at it might think twice about doing it?



Did you also point out that I plan to take thier idea and programing code, improve on it, post it, and try to earn a revenue from thier work? (Maybe using some of thier skins as well, who knows)

I'll call it The Browser. Did you point out to them I was changing the name of it to that? Its mine you know. I got it off the net. I worked hard looking for an idea for my new product. Since they have it on the net, anyone can have it. (I guess)

Mention that I changed the name and some code so they can not say its is thiers and its ok as long as I am not selling it directly (the browser is free but the marketing and design is not.. that's how I will make all that money)

Without a doubt, sad some attempt or actually do such things, actually it is down right criminal and should eat at them until they make things right. Even if that mean doing their own graphics work or actually paying someone for the GUI design....

Noooo!! Don't ban me from the site! I thought it was ok to steal stuff as long as its being distrubuted for free? I am only indirectly making profits...

The thing is that they do have other skins available for it. It's not like they would have to make a new one in order to drop treetog's one. They could just switch the default to something else. Having said that the one based on treetog's work is the best looking in my opinion. I really hope they can work something out.

Their response was essentially "Sure, we took the idea from Abracadabra but we drew it ourselves in Photoshop..."

I suspect if they had done Aqua and given that reason to Apple that Apple would be unimpressed. It is a pity because it is a neat app but they'll never get the support of skin authors if they're going to treat them like dirt.
