Retribution DLC Constantly Crashes

OK, this is going to be difficult to believe.  I had all DLC's for GC3 except Retribution (Ret).  There was a sale on Steam for GC3 Gold Bundle.  But since I had all DLC's except Ret. I was offered just the Ret. DLC that reflected the Gold Bundle discount.  What that means is I got Ret. only from the "bundle" at a discount.  So I purchased, downloaded and tried to play.

Now when I try to play a "Created" game in GC3 with the newly acquired Ret, I can start the game, make the selections of what civilization I want to play and make all the other selections.  And now I hit the start button.  As GC3 is building the universe, BAMB!  CRASH!!

I have NO user created mods subscribed to or even downloaded.  This is a pristine an install as I could possible do.

Troubleshooting steps I have done already:

1.  In Steam, verified the games files.

2.  GC3 still crashing.

3.  Uninstalled and then reinstalled.

4.  Verified the game files.

5.  GC3 still crashing.

6.  Verified my SSD Drive is working properly (it is).

7.  SSD drive is not compressed.

Now, when it does work:

1.  When I play the tutorial.

2.  When I play the campaign.

Can someone please help?  GC3 is one of my most favorite games.

If you're on Steam can you try deselecting the Retribution DLC and see if the game works as normal for you?

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

It would help if we could see what's in your debug.err file, it is located in \Documents\My Games\GC3 or \Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade

If you could upload it to a cloud service (DropBox, Google Drive, One Drive) and post a link here, the developers can take a look at it.

Also did the crash reporter pop-up and did you submit a report with an email address? If yes, send via direct message the email address to me, it will make it easier for support to find the report.

Thank you for your patience and patronage.

The debug.err file is in my DropBox folder.  To whom do I want to share it with?  Stardock? Rhonin_the_wizard?

Yes there came up a box to check the Stardock forum.  I did put in my email address only once, and I could find nothing in the forums anything that came close to my problem.  So every time thereafter I just closed  the "Report Error" box.

Either post the link here or direct message it to me.

I wonder if the links created are the wrong ones with Ret. Just a thought.

Try uchecking all dlc

Install only the Ret then restart the computer, Then install the  rest and restart.

Hopefully the links are set right..

Thanks ForesterGC for your idea, but sadly it didn't work.

When I disabled all DLC  except RET I could play a created game.  But when I enabled all the rest of the DLC as you recommended; crash!  Thanks for your idea just the same.

I know what someone is going to recommend next and that is to enable each DLC one by one.  Well, I did something like that already.  I enabled only the Mercenaries DLC to the Ret already enabled and it crashed.

I know that you mentioned that you don't have any mods installed or workshop stuff subscribed to, but your debug.err suggests the game might be trying to use mods anyways. Could you start the game, go to Options, Gameplay tab, and make sure "Enable Mods" is unselected, and if they were enabled, try running again with them disabled?

It very much sounds like there is something wrong with the sandbox data that your game is trying to use, especially because you are able to run scenarios just fine (which have their own separate data from the sandbox). In case disabling mods doesn't work, you could also try going to where the game is installed (from Steam, right-click Properties, Local Files tab, Browse Local Files button), and delete the Core.bin and GC3.bin in Galactic Civilizations III\DLC\EXP2_Crusade, then rerun the game.

If none of those solutions work, perhaps you have some custom files that are really not playing well with Retribution. To test that, you can rename your Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade folder to some nonsense, then try rerunning the game.

Let us know if any of these ideas worked, and which ones, since that will give us an idea of what is going wrong and what can be done about it.

First suggestion = Did not work

Second suggestion = Could not either file even when I changed the security settings on the folder.

Third suggestion = Works!!

Thank you very much.
