it looks great and much easier to use however it would be nice to be able to stretch the window out to make 2 columns if we wanted to

Looks very nice. Quite simple.

Would also be nice if the list were tabbed into installed, not installed, and needing update.

Thank you,

David

I really like the new interface.  However many of the MPGE2 (?) dreams that I used before (and had installed the codec for) no longer work.  Online instructions for the codecs are not good - I'm stuck, many of my favorites won't work.  Any setup help appreciated, step-by-step if possible.  Thanks!

Ordinarily, I am the one to tell folks not to use ObjectDesktopManager, but I thought I'd try this new version, for shits and giggles.

Lo and behold, it tells me there are updates when there aren't any.

Just reporting.  I'll just keep getting my apps from the My Downloads page.

No longer work (wont animate) but you can apply them... or no... you get the 'No suitable codec found' and can't apply them?

If the latter, try to install the MS supplied codec:

If the former, try:

Hi Sean,

I'm getting the No Suitable Decoder found.  I've installed the MS MPEG2 thing before and it didn't help.  Deskscapes also says it's probably an audio codec issue but I don't think that's likely, very few of the Dreams I have had sound.

All was good before I updated to the new version, and I'd installed the codecs to make it work before, but stuck now.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Set the decoder to DirectShow instead of Media Foundation in DeskScapes settings under the performance tab (at the bottom of the tab)

you might also want to update your codes if not already updated

I use KLite Mega pk. https://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

along with the Direct Show setting Neil mentioned above .

I'd second PhyreBear's suggestion of a resizable window that allows you to make different size grids out of the list. Also maybe an option to drop the descriptive text and just have the icon of the program and the selection button(with it's drop down arrow).

Also I'd like the option to "minimize to tray" on exit. So when I hit the X it minimizes the program to my tray. Oh and the tray icon should be the 3D cube. :)

I have it set NOT to run at Startup, yet, it does. Probably because it sees updates that don't exist.  I dunno.

Do you (did you usually) have it as part of your Windows startup?

I have never had it installed on this PC until this beta. I have always deemed it too problematic.

I must correct myself, obviously it wasn't running at startup, I have rebooted several times. It shows up in the system tray every day advising me of updates that don't exist.  I just "thought" it was running at startup. My bad.

I'm also having the issue where I have it set to NOT run on startup yet several times a day it pops up on my taskbar telling me about non-existent updates. I just disabled the check for updates automatically option. We shall see if that works. I think the program should know that it should only "automatically" check for updates when I start the software myself. Kind of annoying.

And this is with the beta ODM or the old one?  What apps are saying they need an update, what OS?

This is with the beta. And that's the thing, it's not clear what apps need any updates. The auto-start option is OFF. I close the program, then later the icon appears again in the taskbar saying there are updates, I open ODM, and it shows me the list of apps that are installed and not installed (I'm only using like 3 of them right now), and that's it. Nothing shows an update, I don't understand. Am I supposed to see some sort of badge? It just opens ODM. So I close it... and later on the taskbar icon appears again, rinse and repeat.

So disabling automatic updates AND un-checking auto-start prevents it from running on its own. So that's good, I guess. Those are two clashing options that should be addressed. Disabling auto-start should prevent the app from starting on its own, period.  You should still be able to enable automatic updates, and that check should just happen when the app is running, even if its only when you manually start the program. That is my opinion anyways.
