Stardock May 2019 Magazine, Im kind of interested in the unannounced software that makes games.  It should be an interesting ride..  When Beta Testers are needed perhaps I can be included.

As for how I find out about software, it is usually from things I subscribe to, like Stardock mag, or Steam announcements or word of mouth.

My 2 cents.

I use RSS feeds from all the major software vendors as well as the RSS feeds from  Software sites  like Cnet, FileHippo, FileHorse and the like. I tend to use RSS directly from manufacturers more often as  I am really cautious about the BULLSHIT politics that are being  dumped onto everything.

Make great software. Leave the social commentary out of it.

Want me to dump you in a heartbeat?  Push a political agenda (doesn't matter what the agenda is.. I don't care)

Make great software and keep your opinions to yourself?   You will keep me as a customer.

Please consider me for Beta testing for your game developer software. It sounds quite intriguing! Thank you for keeping us in the loop on this new potential product; I've been -quite- pleased with all of my Stardock software. I've been an avid Galactic Civilizations fan since the OS/2 days, and OD runs on my trusty laptop.

Thank you!

I learn about new software from Majorgeeks.com.  It's an amazing resource for all kinds of software.  I would love to see Stardock software submitted there as well.  The site is run by a great team of guys.

That sounds really interesting to use/play/test that software.  Since the early and easy 'xxx Constructor Set' games on the C64 and Amiga, that ease of creation hasn't really been available.

I'd be interested in the "game for making games" for my kids. They've been making their own stuff in Scratch and Roblox. They really like the remix feature in Scratch that lets them fork/edit/share from their friends or from interesting games that they find.

I would be interested in taking a look at how the software works and what is possible. I have no game dev experience although I am a graphic designer so would like to explore how the games can be visually edited.

I usually find out about new software these days (more specifically software like Deskscapes 10) on the Steam platform. Other software I usually find out by e-mail newsletters like the one that brought me here or various other website that aren't as popular as Download.com

The game within the game.  I like it!

Please consider my request for beta testing.  I've been a fan of Stardock software forever.  I think I even dropped off a resume back in 2005 (that's how much I loved Stardock & GC I).  Working down the street from you guys at one time was pretty cool...and then you moved...then my company moved to Novi.  Still love ya though.

-Thank you

I miss the old Pinball/Music/etc. construction Set games! Would love to beta test, and I think my teen boys would too.

ETA: regarding the discussion question, I discover games via word of mouth in online games (WoW mainly) or Steam discovery/ads. I find new productivity software usually when I'm looking for advice on solving a particular problem.

My first computer was a Commodore 64, so my formative gaming experience was with game similar to you the ones your game making software creates. Given the ability to customize the creations, the software seems like it will be a lot of fun and I am very interested in helping beta test it.

I would love to be included in the beta test for a game that makes games , I've always aspired to use game maker but find it a bit over my head. I also love 16 bit style games like FTL or Halcyon 6 , I also have the Star control 1 , 2 ,3 pack that came with Origins .

Looking forward to seeing this project .

I upgraded to the latest DeskScapes 10 and, this one hasn't crashed.!  Now, if some of the actual coders out there would create some dynamic dreams instead of having regular walls & vid-loops to select from.. Then I'd really start to get excited.  I'm a big fan of generated screensavers & have used from the Really Slick 2.0 group for years for screensavers, that is.. along with old classics like 3D Vivid Sparks & Flurry .. have to include the best version of mystify, called BezierMFC.

Anyway, like with my screensaver choices, I recall some original dynamic ones from the earliest days of DeskScapes & hope this new iteration will spark some renewed interest in coding some really neat ones for the future of live wallpaper in Windows.!

Kudos to Stardock for getting it running without incident again.  Thanks.!  ~Myr

I'd love to check out the beta! A game that makes games sounds awesome! BTW THANK YOU for making Groupy, I've used other programs that try to accomplish the same thing but the execution was always quite poor.

I would love to be added to your beta testers list. I am always looking for new opportunities to be on the leading edge of software development, the testing of it in particular.

Most of the time I find new software when I go looking for it because I need something to do it.   Outside of a gaming mag I read (just one, only have so much time) it's more for what might be interesting.

I do think the gaming tool would be fun if it was more create less script.  Being a dev I know that events often times need some type of event handler to do what you want it to do.  I've got the Ace rpg making software, which is interesting, but there is a lot of learning that is needed to do anything well in it and a good bit of planning to make anything worth bothering with.  I played ultima 4 some on the c64...but was more into bard's tale and might and magic. Now for things like zelda and other more console type gaming, that would be pretty cool to mess with since those would be a different style of game.  If you need a beta tester I wouldn't mind helping.  Or once you are done I'll pick it up anyways...:D

For the Deskscapes, I messed with it a bit, but what I found frustrating was that for each background (just image files) the process of adding them was a bit slow and I gave up.  I have a folder that randomly shoves backgrounds on now using windows slideshow.  But I'll keep an eye out for what's being added.  Having four monitors with two sets of different resolutions on two different video cards makes for a more interesting experience with backgrounds.

Official Announcement is Here!  It's "The Video Game Machine"

That's the fastest thing I've signed up for. While I never made anything great (or even good), I loved using programs like The Adventure Construction Set, Klik & Play (and its current form Multimedia Fusion) and others. Though things like Unity were beyond me for some reason. Can't wait to try this.

My favourite way of finding new tech stuff, hardware and software, is via YouTube.

I watch a fair amount of YouTube content, from low-end and more heavy stuff (from Linus clickbait LTT, to GamersNexus, to L1 Techs). If one of the big guys does a review, I'll probably watch it, even if it's not something I'm generally interested in. Because I like the style and they make stuff engaging, I'll enjoy watching it.

I could probably recite GlassWire, Nord VPN, and PIA's specific marketing points from memory at this point, because of the sponsorship of YouTubers I'm subscribed to.

I'm starting to watch more Twitch and YouTube livestreams too, mostly Overwatch-related content but sometimes branching out. (Live Cosplay Twitch streamers are fun to watch!) I've watched a couple of tech livestreams, Charles Lohr especially.

As for other avenues, Google, Hacker News and Reddit (PCMR and Sysadmin), Facebook and sometimes even Instagram...

I Google pretty much every problem I come across, even if I already know the fix, so that's a big source of finding out about new stuff. Pretty sure that's how I found out about Fences back in the day.

I'll binge Ars every month or so. El Reg a couple of times a week.

Rarely via Google Ads, when I Google for a specific problem, but I'm usually blocking adverts by default.

"Alternative.to" is something I check semi-regularly, especially if I know of a product that solves a similar problem to the one I'm trying to solve.

I'll usually read related Wikipedia pages and check for links and pages for other software for products and/or problems.

If something's on Ninite then it's vastly more likely to get added to my standard install pack.

I've bought Humble Bundles, which I guess counts too.

I hope some of that's maybe helpful!

I'm looking forward The Video Game machine. I've already got a couple of ideas for games I want to try and make!

Super interested in The Video Game Machine, have signed up to the founder edition.

Personally, I find out about new software from youtube, kickstarter, tomshardware (bit of a Non sequitur that) and newsletters or twitter for companies I respect/follow.

But mostly it's a google search for a requirement, maybe review a page of results, focussing on review sites like trustedreviews.
