Siege of Centauri: Defending Aberny

Aberny is a colony set in the high arctic wastes of Centauri. The colonists have two Metal Refineries here and we will get free metal form them for as long as we can defend them. Paths here are winding and we are lucky to only be dealing with one entrance for enemies, but some locations may become useless if our enemies manage to destroy a metal refinery and switch targets.

Before we start, I'm going to configure the Carpathia (or orbital warship) for the mission. I'm going heavy on orbital abilities. I can see there are air units on this level so I'm taking the Storm Projector upgrade to my Arc Projectors so that they can attack air units. I'm currently on a Cyclopian Laser fixation so I'm selecting the Graviton Beam (which slows enemies it is targeting) and the Apollo Reactor (which increases its range as it levels up).

Once I'm ready I hit launch and start the battle.

The first wave starts pretty light. In fact since I purchased the upgrade to earn interest on stored metal I'm going to avoid building any towers and deploy Milton to fight the oncoming army. Milton is a great defender and does decent damage, but will only survive for a little while. Fortunately I equipped him with a Retribution Core so when he dies he explodes and takes some enemies with him.

Milton works well for the first wave, but soon tougher enemies are on their way. I drop a short range Cyclopian Laser and a long range Minos Cannon. Though my Cyclopian Laser destroy's the Falling Star gliding by it, the Star explodes on death and disables any towers in range. So my Cyclopian Laser is knocked out for a little while.

More enemies arrive and break through to my eastern metal refinery. I spent metal upgrading my colony, which works much like Ages in Age of Empires (a heavy cost, but doing so unlocks upgraded towers and orbital abilities). I probably did it too early because metal I'm using upgrading isn't being used to build towers, which allowed the enemies to get through.

And sure enough my eastern metal refinery is destroyed. Goodbye free metal. But at least I have one refinery left and this time I will be smarter (or so I always tell myself).

Flying attackers are much more difficult. The ignore the paths and most towers can't hit them. Fortunately I upgraded my Arc Projector so it can attack them and I use the Overcharge orbital ability to increase its damage and fire rate for a short while to knock those jets out of the air.

Meanwhile a new group of enemies has come in and is trying to sneak around the edge of this cliff. But by this point I have a few upgraded Minos Cannon's and I make short work of them. Things are looking up.

Very briefly looking up as an even larger wave of air units attack my western refinery and my single arc projector and an icarus missile isn't enough to defend it. So much for being smarter.

Seemingly emboldened by their success a large wave comes in. Way more than my towers can handle since I have been building a lot of powerful but slow towers that aren't good against swarms of enemies. But I collected enough metal to upgrade my Colony to level 3, and that unlocks the Orbital Strike ability.

Someone brought a bomb to a gun fight, and that guy was me.

A few enemies got missed by the orbital strike so I drop a few towers and some reinforcements on the last pass up to my colony and cut them apart before they do any damage.

The enemies make one last rush for my colony. and I throw everything I have at them. An EMP strike stuns this big guy long enough for my towers to do their work. They are destroyed and Aberny is saved.

The Early Access for Siege of Centauri will start soon and we are excited to get your feedback on the game. Community feedback is always a critical part of game development at Stardock and we are looking forward to hearing from you.
