Star Control: Origins - Earth Rising part 2 brings humanity face to face with the technological singularity

Return of the Lexites adds new quests, new locations, new ships for Star Control players.

The epic space RPG, Star Control: Origins, is due to receive the second part of its 4 part expansion, Earth Rising, soon. Return of the Lexites presents the player with their most dangerous challenge yet -- a post-singularity species whose motives are a mystery.

The Lexites are impeding Earth's efforts to expand into known space. But why? Playing as the Captain of Earth's first interstellar starship, you will find yourself visiting new worlds, engaging in combat against strange new ships while trying to unravel the mysterious plans of the post-humans who left Earth.

"Because Star Control is a non-linear RPG, the Earth Rising expansion series doesn't require you to have completed the main story-line," said Brad Wardell, designer of Star Control: Origins. "As we release each part to the expansion, players get to experience an ever richer sandbox to explore."

Star Control: Origins - Earth Rising is $19.99. Part 1, Aftermath, is available now. Part 2: Return of The Lexites will release this spring. Part 3 arrives this summer, with the conclusion due this fall.

How do the new quests trigger for part 2?

I have every quest marked as completed from part 1 and no new points from part 2 release.

PS: Just re-read the article and is not released yet.

Haha, whoops! I've definitely done that before. ;) Don't worry, we'll make sure to announce when it arrives!

Just picked the whole package up last night (game and this expansion)

I'm pretty pleased with it after about 3 hours of gameplay. Figured I'd get it before another DMCA.

Haha, fair enough! As for resource farming, best way to go about it is to avoid planets that don't have the greatest groupings and values and pass onto those that have the really good stuff. Upgrading your lander to be able to handle the dangerous planets (which often yield some good resources) is gonna help, too. ;)

how do you determine groupings and values? Just at the planet screen when it shows what it's found and the values you mean?

Yeah, if you look at the planet read-out on the right hand side, it will tell you how much a resource is worth. And at the top of the resource list, there will be a value that shows how much total money you can make by getting resources on that planet. Just a good guide so you don't spend too much time with the small fries and instead focus on the whoppers.

Does the color of the world indicate potential wealth like it did in SC2?

Yes.  The color of the world in SCO indicates what world type it is.  For example Rainbow Worlds are well, rainbow colored with a purple atmosphere.  The black ones are Plutonic and tend to have valuable Francium.

Ok, so I completed the main game. and I THINK I completed Chapter 1 of this. It only took me like 5-10 minutes to do that chapter. Did I miss something?

I don't want to spoil anything, but it seemed REAL short.

Should take a minimum of 2 hours to do it.  It’s not just one quest chain.

Ok, so spoilers in the question:

I headed to the bottom right corner of the map. I met the floppy aliens, I met some folks in Lexite ships nearby who I fought 3 times... then I got an a ship from the floppy aliens and I think I got a little pop up about 'congratulations, you've completed Chapter 1, and something about chapter 2!'

Did that really take me 2 hours or did I miss something or did I not realize I was doing something in the chapter earlier than I thought? My objectives never really updated.

Did you go to the Deep Horizons space station Earth set up at Epsilon Trireme?

Did you visit the Precursor Starbases again?

You don't have to ask us you could just check the Quest Guide for all spoilers.

oh, yeah, I guess I wasn't sure when I crossed from the main quest to aftermath and was apparently doing some aftermath side quests during the main quest.
