switch to GOG

I realize the answer is probably "no", but let me put this to you as an opportunity.

I purchased Star Control Origins when the title was pulled from both steam and GOG.  I did it because ive liked Stardock, since elemental, and I supported the games.  I was provided with a steam key, and no option for a GOG key, or stardock download(very preferred!).  I didn't know if i would like the game so i bought no DLC, and no season pass.

I loved the game, I beat it.  I would be back for more, except : I only tolerate Steam, and would rather have GOG.  I might even be persuaded to buy future DLC if i could get it on GOG. I hate how you need steam to play and how the game had various prereq issues with VC distributions.  I would much rather play on GOG. Please... please open GOG connect! Let us who supported you when no one else would chose what platform to download on!

Again, I loved the game and would play future DLC, if not for the annoyance of steam.  Now that im stuck on steam, i would have to buy future DLC or season passes on steam, which i refused to do.

It might be doable. Send an email to support. Tell them I sent you.

I had this exact same issue.  I was able to migrate my save game from Steam -> GOG without a problem.  I first made a backup of all the save files.  I can't remember where they are stored but it wasn't hard to find.  IIRC they might have been under Documents.  It turns out I didn't need to make a backup, but I suggest you do anyway.  Then uninstall via Steam.  Then install and patch via GOG.  Then launch the game and voila, your save files will still be accessible and will still work via the GOG installation.  I've also completed everything available in Earth Rising as of when I installed it.  My current problem is I can't tell which parts of Earth Rising are available yet and what's included -- I can't tell if I need to look for another patch for parts 2-4 of Earth Rising.

I didn't read your post closely enough.  I don't know what "GOG Connect" is.  I assume this is some sort of installer / patch maintainer run by GOG, which I didn't use.  I downloaded the "offline installers" from GOG and installed that way.

GOG connect is pretty amazing.

https://www.gog.com/connect

If there is progress made in this direction I'd love to hear about it :)  I assume it is covered by NDAs and such though.

GOG connect is a promotion that GOG does with permission form the games creator where they get a free copy of the Game on GOG

I would like either this , or to switch my license to GOG.  As it stands i would have to buy the game again, or continue with steam(forDLC) which i would rather not do.

The CEO of the company that made the game is saying that it might be possible if you send a message to support. I'd think that substantially increases your chances of getting that switch, no?

Now that I've read the details of GOG Connect, I'm tempted to use it, but one thing makes me balk.  Q&A #15 says, if you lose the game on Steam, GOG reserves the right to remove the game from GOG too.  This is exactly one of the reasons why I don't want to use a system like Steam in the first place.  Like most consumers, I hate the idea that something I purchase might be unilaterally taken away from me -- I purchased it @&!*&! it!  (I recognize there *may* be valid reasons for it in some circumstances, but (a) I still hate it and (b) I'm not convinced of the legitimacy of most of the takedowns.)  In any case, this Q&A seems to imply that my GOG library would be beholden to Steam, which seems to significantly reduce the value of GOG.

I *hope* the reality is that, anything that could cause something to be yanked from my Steam library would also cause it to be yanked from my GOG library anyway, and, if I really care, I should sync my GOG library locally periodically and not have to worry about online store shenanigans.

yes, steam has LOTS of issues, but somtimes im impatient.  I got a message back from support saying that tehy are not on GOG, but, you can clearly buy Star Control from GOG.  Oh well i have a big backlog.
