Stardock's award-winning space strategy game, Galactic Civilizations III is about to get its biggest expansion yet.  Galactic Civilizations III: Retribution adds new playable civilizations, a story-driven campaign, Precursor artifacts, Hypergates and much more.

Across the galaxy, ancient alien artifacts are being discovered, giving civilizations powerful new capabilities. Meanwhile, as civilizations try to carefully balance building an economy, funding an ever growing war machine, and engaging in diplomacy, the humans of Sol III have invented a game-changing new technology - Hypergates - which, when connected, allow for rapid transit across the galaxy.

With two new major civilizations and the concluding campaign to the Galactic Civilizations III backstory that serves this massive space 4X sandbox game, Retribution asks the question: How will you rule your galaxy?

The new features in Galactic Civilizations III: Retribution include:

  • Artifacts - Powerful items buried on planets across the galaxy will give your civilization instant-access to new abilities.
  • Hypergates - Construct powerful gateways that, when linked, allow your fleets to travel rapidly across hyperspace.
  • Major Civilizations: Drath and Korath - The manipulative Drath pull the strings across the galaxy while the Korath rely on extermination. Each has its own set of special abilities, bonuses, and ship parts.
  • Supply Ships - Supply ships can be constructed to deliver goods and services to your other planets to aid in their development.
  • New Technology Tree - A top to bottom overhaul of the technology tree adds depth and sharpens the strategic choices in your research options.
  • Retribution Campaign -The malevolent Drengin Empire made a terrible mistake underestimating humanity’s strength, and the climactic battle that will follow may end in their extinction.

Great , new content and , as I suggested , stargates, but... disappointed not to see the possibility of building minefields to have strong borders, basically there are no borders , and really will never be true borders. being able to fly in and out of other races territory so easily is not good

How long will it take to fix all the new BUGS when the old bugs still exist ?and the messing with the entire tech tree .. hmm I dunno...this sounds scary:omg:   ee

In the effort to make more money , the piling on of yet more bugs might finish GC3 off or at least the few remaining modders

just saying the game should be rock solid BEFORE adding shi*

May I request an eta of: when it's ready.

Thank you. x

Cautiously optimistic.

I really hope something is done about the AI declaring war on me from the other side of the friggin' galaxy when we can't reach each other. And have something done about the "ripe for conquest" tag. And don't give me that "Get Gud" bull. I like to play stupid huge maps against a lot of AI in any 4x game but as of right now the game isn't really designed for that style of play.

How do you see minefields working in space, exactly?

How do you see minefields working in space, exactly?

Huge aid for TALL strategy , Isolationists and Pacifists.. defend your territory WITHOUT declaring war ! Make the mines FORMIDABLE !

1. Deploy and Remove

**** the minelayer (constructor ship with mine units) would have to expend a unit to lay a mine in a hex and likewise to remove it the sweeper (constructor )would have to expend a removal unit it or sacrifice a ship or two to eliminate it... a special sensor (or SPIDER citizen) is  necessary to detect the mines would make the constructor so armed unique ***********

2. EFFECTS.. DAMAGE

A, B and C strength based on tech level researched with radial effect

a frontier that ships invading take damage depending on the strength of mines or type, chance of damaging certain ship systems like the warp drive etc.. other random effects

invisible to the unfriendly force and detectable with minesweepers , detonates on non-allied or non-friendly ships

mine once layed in a hex, represent a field affecting adjacent hexes as well , lay one every other hex to make your perimeter ,  with limitations on proximity and making enemies if placed too close to other races

3. PURPOSE..DEFENSE...KEEP OUT TRESPASSERS !!!

when it is not our turn - we dont want to be ravaged !!

prevent a wild TRANSPORT from wreaking havoc.

used to Isolate a resource or planet until it can be colonized , setting up bases , influence , camping out in your space with attackers

stop ships flying right through your space without penalty. .

Defending your commonwealths and allies too !!

----------EXTRA--------------------

The PIRATES could defend their bases too.

Just imagine putting a minelayer on auto to lay a minefield around your system !!!

How does that sound ?

I'll be the one that asks the question everyone wants to know... when on the 21st will the game be released?

Dear Fellow players and SD

am I grumpy...JJ gonna JJ

SD (and everyone including me) would do well to remember , *** you must weigh what you gain by what you must give up ***

Firstly..will you lose your fan base , the old guard ?

I do like the Hypergates  but other than that I don't see the positives of this...yet..not saying I will never .. but as of now.. I just do not

the choices of the tech tree were sometimes so difficult that I sat for 15 minutes to try to decide which was best , then set to trade for the rest knowing that I may not be able to , if my diplomacy was too low|-)

there were countless instances on the trade screen where nearly every tradeable tech was one of the 3 and you had to barter for the others or just live with the deficiency and consequences of your choices

******** did you finally fix the auto upgrade button ? if not, madness will ensue in players ***************

is there a way to increase the .001 ? in settings ?

the synthetics are likely to be helped by this and thats a good thing but at the expense of all the other race types..not so good

why not just crank up the synths growth and make them fearsome as in days of "YOR" :D I don't fear them anymore

MOSTLY !! Finally ..putting out more content without fixing the bugs and weaknesses is not consideration for the loyal players who , in the end will make or break the game with their final judgement of the new content

I noticed a cut , a huge one to repairing ships .. what for ? 5 was slow repair enough .. at 1 your not really fixing anything at all

I may be sailing away soon, set an open course for the virgin seas...I've got to be free...

GOOD LUCK TO ALL PLAYERS AND DEVS !!

ramblings perhaps ... perhaps not

Overall the new DLC sounds interesting although I wonder how much the new star gates might cause game breaking issues - it will definitely change previously useful strategies. I hope that they will be very expensive to build and only become available in the late (third?) of the game!

Now one important question for all your gog.com customers: when will we be able to throw our hard earned money your way and buy this DLC on gog.com???

Hypergates are about as expensive as building a starbase and are available very early game.

They are intended as an alternative to bee-lining high end drives.

And each requires an administrator, which makes them limited/strategic.
