Yeah, So Shaunna Has Bought Herself An Electric Guitar

and now I want one too.

Yeah, as the title says, Shaunna has bought herself an electric guitar to replace the accoustic one my son stole when he was here.

Anyway, it is a Squier Stratocaster Sunburst Brown, not black like the one in the external link.  It comes with a 10 watt amp, a tuner, a set of picks, a carry case and a 10' cable to plug it in.  She should have it by Monday or Tuesday.  It also comes with 3 months of online lessons, so it's a pretty good deal for AU$369.00.

Thing is, and I can't play for nuts, I want one, too.  Mine would have to be left-handed, though.  One night we got on the beer and I dabbled with a mate's right-handed guitar and had some fun, but playing it upside down was not the easiest.  I tried playing right-handed but it wasn't the best because I lacked the dexterity that way, so a left-handed guitar it is.

Yup, an old fart who's never played properly before, getting a guitar to have a bit of fun and learn a few tunes.  Why not?  And doing it with Shaunna will make it even more fun.... learning some Metallica and other heavy metal stuff to shake the foundations, hehe.  What would be really good is if we can learn to play the blues like Roy Buchanan.  We'd never be that good, but there's no harm in trying.

Well that's it for now, folks, an update when Shaunna's package arrives. :)

Well I have decided on a left-handed Squier Affinity Stratocaster Brown Sunburst and a Fender Champion 20 amp.

I go pay for them today via bank deposit and I should get them either Tuesday or Wednesday next week.  Mine isn't a bundle deal like Shaunna's, but I'm getting the accessories added in [cables, picks and tuner, ect] for no additional cost.  I think that's because I told the salesperson that I am 65, have never played before and want to learn.  She said that it's never too late to learn and threw in the accessories so I could get started straight away.

No worries, RG, I don't know much about guitars, either.  My son played one while he was here, and I have a couple of nephews who also play, but I only ever listened and didn't get involved in the jam sessions.  Thing is, I want to learn now and try my hand at some blues tunes.

I do agree, the brown looks great.  Shaunna's version comes in brown or black but she opted for the brown.  The right-handed of my version comes in black; candy apple red; metallic blue and the brown, but the left-handed version only comes in brown, but that's okay, the brown is very nice and I like it.

A guy called Hendrix managed fairly well.  You might have heard of him...;)

Thanks for that, we're both early learners so I don't know about recording just yet, but you never know.

Next week we could be famous for Satriani covers. :-"

Hehe, I'd be lucky if I can play 'Three Blind Mice' by then.

Nah, never heard of him. :-"

Seriously, though, Hendrix was a genius several decades ahead of his time, and that's why I admired him above most other guitarists: his ability to play a right-handed guitar left-handed, upside down.  It wasn't something I found at all easy.  But then, maybe that was the beer.

We sure had a skinful that night, drowning our sorrows in pints of lager and rather poor attempts at singing/playing the blues.  His wife had just left him and mine [not Shaunna, didn't know here back then]..... mine was bloody awful.

Anyway, I should find the guitar a lot easier to play now because I recently had cortizone injections in my hands and movement isn't as restricted or as painful.
