Patches for GOG

I realize Steam is the dominant platform but many of us did purchase SCO on GOG. A patch was released yesterday (10/3) on Steam and we are still waiting for it to be released on GOG. Any idea when this will happen? Is there a reason we can't get patches the same day they are released on Steam?

GOG has their own release process, so they will be up as soon as they process them.

Basically, blame GOG.  Steam shoots them out when Stardock sends the patches.  GOG has people run them through checks manually, creating delays.

Actually, I did some research and GOG has a DEV PORTAL that allows developers to upload patches directly to Galaxy.

Devs have complete control over patching and can push out patching to every Galaxy user (just like they can on Steam), but only if they decide to use it

Meanwhile, Stardock devs say otherwise.

And why?

"What's more, after the build gets published on GOG via devportal, we test every single one of it - the reason for that is that we want to able to provide our developers with feedback regarding their games to maintain the quality of our products."

Meaning everything said here is correct.  Sure, Devs can upload their patches.  And then they still have to wait for GOG to test every damn patch before it's pushed out.

So, ACTUALLY, your research is flawed and incomplete.

Look I am not trying to start an argument, all I am trying to do is get support for a game.

All I know is the customer who makes the mistake (which I will not make again) of purchasing a first run game via GOG is caught in the middle.  I have contacted GOG via email, via forum posts, via support tickets and have yet to get any response. I have even requested a full refund due to this issue.

In the future I will stick with Steam.

Enjoying the game by the way, lots of fun!

I took a look at the link you posted - and according to the information in that thread

JudasIscariot: The developers publish them independent of us, we simply test them afterwards in case a regression is introduced :)

BKGaming: Okay so that would be yes they show up immediately on Galaxy after a dev publishes them to all Galaxy users, but we still test them? That is what I'm getting from that... correct?

JudasIscariot:That's correct :)

Which is counter-intuitive to what they said previously.  How can they test it before publishing it if it's immediately released?  Combined with Stardock Devs saying they hold onto it for testing before letting it be released, I'm more inclined to think their latter statement is them trying to protect themselves.

What I gather from reading through the thread  - If GOG are telling the truth  - this applies only to the GALAXY client - which has a rollback feature.  The patches are still tested before they are posted to their website for manual download.

Oh well, I am done with games on GOG. I am probably just going to re-purchase SC:O on  STEAM so I can play an up to date game.

Today they announced more minor updates - free upcoming DLC.

Well it was finally updated to 1.02 - but only through the GALAXY client. If you check the files for manual download on the GOG website  - they are still at 1.01.

Lols……..sorry OP not laughing at your specific issue......just bear with me for a minute as I relish some delicious irony......}:)

I recall some days in the distant past on these very forums on numerous threads wherein I very much seemed the one-and-only defender of STEAM in the face of often overwhelming opposition from anyone/everyone (aka STEAM is bad, STEAM is evil, STEAM will steal your soul if you let it...…. etc. etc. etc.).

I loved and used STEAM way back then...…..and still love and use it...……...EXCLUSIVELY.   I don't give a shit what comes out where...….if it ain't released on STEAM...….fuck it...….fuck it back to the stone age!

<mic drop>

O:)

LOL - get where you are coming from. Remember very clearly those opinions about Steam. I have over 100 games on Steam  and have been using it for many years.  I have 80 on GOG, most are old DOS games from my youth and were very cheap or free and for these games GOG  is great.  Most of the first run games I purchased I ended up re-purchasing on Steam (usually during a sale) due to the issues brought up in this thread.

I am done with GOG.
