"Steam" is causing trouble

Steam Support is non-existant

I downloaded Star Control from "Steam" because after paying Brad for my game there is no direct download from "Stardock".

After I installed the game it would not run. I uninstalled and re-installed. I followed every instruction and checked every perimeter

I checked everything "Steam" FAQ sheet said to check - Antivirus - Firewall - Game cache verification of files - Computer requirements

and the damn thing will not start up or run. When I click on "Play" I get a screen saying The Game is preparing to start - then

nothing.  The loons at "Stardock" told me to check their FAQ sheet. There is no fact sheet covering StarControl and or "Steam"

loading games. Anyone have any info on this phenomenon ??

Did you right click on Star Control Origins in your library, Properties, Betas, select the beta you would like to opt into: click the arrow and select NONE?

I was a beta tester and the game stopped working after the beta until I opted out of the beta.

Thanks Guys for trying to help - it is greatly appreciated - I downloaded SCO from "Steam" and it should have put the

Game files on my computer but when I went to looking under  downloads - Documents or Program Files I did not find any

SCO - So tell me if I wanted to play this game "offline" where should the executable file be located to start the game.

Even though "Steam" is telling me it is starting the game (then Nothing) I think I have files that are missing. Where

should I go on my computer to verify ?? Jack

Umm SCO should be installed in steamapps just like all other Steam games:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Control - Origins\Game\StarControl_DX11.exe

If you're running Windows10 and you have an installation of StarControl 'somewhere' on your PC then do a simple Windows search. I happen to have installed my steam games on a secondary SSD due to storage considerations.

Open File Explorer, click 'This PC', and do a search for ''StarControl_DX11.exe' on your drive. If the file is found, then right-click on it and choose the option to show file location.

I am running Windows 7 pro 64 bit - and yes I verified the files - When I run the Steamapp executible file (DX11.exe) I get this

api-ms-win-crt-runtime-L-1-1-0.dll (missing) I have uninstalled and re-installed this program SCO (3) times

I don't think the C +++ is being installed with the program. I need the C +++ that is used by this program. I went to

"MajorGeeks" and installed their C +++ package which includes all the C + versions I got the runtimes for 05-08-10-12-13

and 15  but the damn thing still will not run.  - - - perplexed

You don't need to go elsewhere...I'd suggest you use the DirectX, DotNet, and vcredist that come along with the install under the Steamworks Shared subdir in the StarControl Origins directory. Use the DXSETUP, NDP471blahblahblah, vc_redist.x64 applications. I'm guessing that perhaps an antivirus program blocked the installations during the StarControl install - run them by hand.

Example image below showing locations, using one of my installed configurations.

Dear Mercy - You must be running Win/10 because my files don't look like yours - something is different.

I shut off my Antivirus completely - then uninstalled and re installed for the 4th time - nothing changed

it still will not run.

Hi JBuck, perhaps you didn't run the three applications that I suggested? I've found on occasion that steam misses the 'first time execution' of these redistributables and the only way to fix this is to run them manually. No amount of uninstall/install seems to fix this.

Don't worry about Win7 vs Win10. Just look for those directories/applications under your Star Control - Origins directory.

If none of this works, then it's time to send your RunLog and settings.ini files to Stardock: ppen File Explorer, click "This PC', and do a search for RunLog.txt on your drive. If the file is found, then select it, right-click to bring up the menu, and open the file location. You'll see the settings file there as well.
