A living universe...?

I really, really hope one of the devs is reading this, because I'm very curious...

I read something one of the design team had written, and they said that our choices have consequences, and that by the time our game was over, the galaxy would probably look very different from someone else's galaxy.

Thing is...I don't really see how.

Most of the choices I'm given--at least in dialogue--seem to have led to the same place, ultimately. Like, if I tell the Scryve that they're slime or just ask them what they did next, they might give me a hot retort...and then say what they were gonna say anyway. (I know. I've tried it.)

I haven't really noticed more than one way to complete a mission, where I could be nice or be a brat.

We can't conquer stars and colonize them.

So...how do our choices have consequences? What are these changes that our choices ultimately bring? Are they just too subtle to notice, or was the hype a bit too...hyperbolic? I know it'd be a bit spoilerific to say, or at least to give specifics, but still...

Just curious.

Yeah, they kind of didn't deliver on that aspect at all. It's a game on rails for the most part.

Or maybe they did and we just don't see it cuz we've only played it through once.

But...well, I d'know.

I mean, okay, what if we'd gone to trial with the Mu'Kay without the necessary evidence and lost their support? Will the game let you do that?

It'd be worth a shot trying, I suppose, but I can't imagine someone just doing that. Maybe if the trial was time-sensitive, and you had to do the gathering of evidence NOW, rather than taking your time, and that's how a choice could make or break you, change the galaxy.

I d'know.

Your choices accumulate. This becomes pretty important late game and in ongoing updates where we begin to compare the different variables of all players to set up thresholds for new consequences in the upcoming adventure packs.

Your chkices in game, as is, can lead to the annihilation of entire species.

Ah.

Perhaps I shouldn't have renamed my spaceship to "White Knight".

I should replay the game as a complete jerkwad. Heh. :)

There's the stranded Norast vessel you can help or rob.  I think there are at least a couple more similar minor quests where you can either help for a reward or threaten/destroy for plunder.  And of course you can choose to defend your allies or let them get destroyed.  I'm assuming that's what makes the difference between the Steam achievements Are You Proud of Yourself? and You Did What You Had To.  There's also the Steam achievement for making the Tywom cry, I'm not sure what you have to do for that one, but it sounds dastardly.
