License Problems with Icondeveloper

Here's a seasoned Stardock user who's having trouble after so many years. A couple of months ago, some of the Stardock programs I used under Windows 10 "forgot" their license number. This forced me to uninstall Start10 and ShadowFX, and only kept Icondeveloper, because is a very important software for me. I asked from Stardock a e-mail with all my licenses (user e-mail {Email Removed}), and I had to have it handy every time I opened Icondeveloper, because the program asked for the license. Not a great deal, but this worked until last Saturday, when I received a "exceeded activation number" on the process of pasting the license to open the program.

Instead of contacting directly with you, and in a excess of "bona fides" (I had a big collection of icons unabled to be processed due to this problem), I bought a new license, in the hope of linking it with this mail account and overcome the limitation. Even I unistalled all Stardock-related items previous to new Icondeveloper instalation, the software remembered my previous Stardock account and linked the new license to it (both numbers appear on my Stardock web profile under Icondeveloper entry). It worked ok at first use, and finished the project, but on the next opening, the program "forgot" the license number and asked for it. I've not provided it, in order to not "suck dry" like the previous one, but then I can't use the software. I've always used Stardock programs under Windows 10 without problem, so any advice or solution for your part would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance, best regards.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

So you said a lot of things there.

Can you break it down to be a little more clear to me.

Exactly what do you need us to do for you right now .

The OP wants to activate IconDeveloper and have it remember it is activated.   Sounds like something is blocking the activation process AzDude.

@Imperatrix.  De-activate your anti-virus software before trying to activate IconDeveloper.

Sorry if I extended myself a lot, but this is annoying me a lot. Tried your suggestion, and no difference was spotted. I open Icondeveloper, it asks for serial. If I provide it, the program works normally until next execution, when it asks again for serial. I am sure antivirus (I use Microsoft one) is not the culprit. This happens too with ShadowFX, I had to uninstall it, but I don't want to lose Icondeveloper. For what I've learned the hard way, each activation counts.

BTW, Icondeveloper has not the "Manage" button on My Downloads, like other Stardock programs. I can see the two licenses (old expired one and new bought one), but that's all. Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks a lot for the elegant and quick solution, I am certainly impressed. For now, Icondeveloper Works as intended after activating it. Allow me please some more testing to be sure all is OK. Apart from that, you have the gratitude of a senior Stardock user.

Hi and hello again:

No luck, I am having same trouble. I installed ShadowFX again and I just uninstalled it, since it asked for activation every time computer restarts, this is annoying. And Icondeveloper keeps asking me for the activation key every 2-3 runs. No key, no working program. I've been using this software for so many years, and I never encountered any trouble. Only changes on my setup I can think of are a change of Internet router (don't think has nothing to do), using Windows 10 versión 1803 and updated Auslogics' Bootspeed. Rest is the very same.

Sorry to hear that.

I want you to go to:

\ProgramData\Stardock

Note that is ProgramData (normally hidden folder) not Program Files.  To see how to show hidden files \ folders, please see:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028316/windows-view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-10

Any Stardock app that is giving you grief, delete its folder.  You will have to reactivate any that are again, but it should stop the nag.

Sorry for the trouble.

This is what I found at AppData folder. ShadowFX was uninstalled this morning: all three folders are empty, I've just checked it. Should I remove them?

No, you do not need to be concerned with AppData, just ProgramData.

Oh, excuse me. These folders are located on ProgramData, just checked it. And also are empty, that's curious. Registered again the progran and a .bin file appeared on it. Will keep it monitored. I have to leave now, but I'll check on next restart.

Well, days have passed and I must apologize for not showing off here way before. I am just using Icondeveloper right now, and it still "loses" its registration. When I launch the program, it prompts for the key. I provide it, and a .bin file is created on Stardock ProgramData folder. On next execution, Icondeveloper asks again for the key. I don't know what to think: I've been using the program under Windows 10 during a lot of time, and never had a trouble.

Two things come to mind.

1) Is your A/V software flagging/quarantine the .bin file?

2) Have you set Windows 10 to protect/encrypt the folder ProgramData?

Hi again, not in a hurry. don't worry! I've opened Icondeveloper several times today and all worked fine. Answering the kind suggestions from BigDogBigFeet, I must state that:

- AV (Windows Defender) is not detecting .BIN files as a menace in any way

- ProgramData folder in my System is visible and unprotected, I can interact freely with it.

Just to be in the safe side, I've instructed BoostSpeed for ignoring ProgramData/Stardock folder: I am having another trouble with that program that I've passed to their tech people. So far, everything is quiet. Thank everyone for your efforts!

I would try to reinstall it again with Admins rights and see if that does not fix it.  If not go to program folder and find the "exe" file that launches Icondeveloper and right click on it and select "Properties" and then select "Compatibility" and under Privilege Level check box "Run this program as an administrator", Click apply then close.   Third item I would check is the shares/Security for ProgramData/Stardock folder.
