No mouse on game load

Downloaded game from GoG, run game, watch intro movie, get to opening game screen.

No mouse cursor.  At all.

Alt-tab out of game, quit from taskbar, restart

Watch intro movie again (can't escape out of it, apparently)

Back to game screen - no mouse cursor.

All other games / apps work fine.  What gives?

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, 16 Gb RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1080

Win 10 home (64)

SC:O build 1.0.52584

More info:

  • On initial load, the game spends a long time on the splash screen with the "blue circle" cursor before the movie starts
  • By alt-tabbing after the main game screen came up, I managed to get into a situation where Star Control is running in a corner of my display and I can still see the rest of the display.  When I move my cursor into the star control "window" it turns into a blue circle again.  I think the blue circle gets hidden in fullscreen mode.

I believe this means that the game has stopped responding and the UI is waiting for it.  The game is still playing intro music and displaying normally, but I can't interact with it.

I'm not sure what this means in practice, but it's making it very hard to get into the game.

Sorry that you're having trouble. Can you post your runlog.txt?  It would be here:  C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\My Games\Star Control

I had a similar problem.  I had a mouse cursor.  But it did not appear to interact with the rest of the game at all.

So I dug out an old Logitech game controller that I hadn't touched in years, figuring it might let me navigate around the menus and get going.  Once I plugged that in and started the game again not only could I use the controller I could also now use my mouse.  Truly weird.

Not sure why having the controller would affect my ability to use a mouse.  But there you go.  Maybe that info will help track down the bug.

Ok, that is really funky.

I plugged in a logitech M90 mouse, loaded the game, and rather than a spinning blue wheel I got a mouse cursor plus spinning blue wheel.  When the cut-scene started, I moved my original mouse and got a yellow triangle mouse cursor, and was able to hit escape and jump straight to the main menu.  I then unplugged the Logitech mouse and the main mouse continued to work.

Main mouse is a Thermaltake TTesports Challenger Prime RGB.  I updated the drivers recently and it works fine in every other app I've tried.  Will keep you posted.

Changed resolution to 3840x2160 and restarted with just the TT mouse.  Working now.  That makes no sense to me, but go figure.

(Side issue: it would be really appreciated if running the game in the default resolution didn't rearrange all the browser / discord / GOG windows on my desktop)

Edit: Before starting, I also turned off virus scanning and disabled the local firewall.  No idea if that would make a difference.  So there are 3 total changes made, sorry.

This seems very odd to me.  You changed the resolution to 4K ... what was it before?
